Today's "conservatives" are copulating
and making the next generation of Americans who will cheer our kids on to their deaths because some dumbfuck "conservative" will get elected in the future and when something goes wrong, they won't give a fuck. "Conservatives" don't give a fuck about the deaths of our kids today or yesterday or tomorrow.

Today's address has been brought to you by one "conservative" hating veteran.

My hate is rational. Please lurkers give it your best shot.

1. An awful lot of us DUers are the kids of conservatives.
I am, although my mother was more of a Rockefeller Republican. But my father ended up just this side of Strom Thurmond.

They were as surprised as Hell when it turned out I bought their patriotic and religious platitudes at face value.

You know, "All men are created equal," "Christ died for ALL our sins," "We are all God's children," "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone," and my favorite, the Parable of the Vineyard.

Anyway, I think open-minded parents often raise open-minded children. But ignorant, repressive parents can drive their kids into a philosophical stance quite opposite theirs.

Not always, but sometimes.

3. I know nothing of my fathers politics other than the fact
He wore a Nixon pin years before he became President. My mother also never talked about politics other than admitting how she voted (she voted fairly liberal, though not as lefty as me). I was however brought up to question EVERYTHING, especially authority, thus assuring I would become a liberal.

5. Were you a military brat? Politics was a verboten subject in
our home. I had two political talks with my Father in my entire life. He was a yellow-dog, Mother told me that, but in 1952 (his first election,) he liked Ike.

4. My pop was a life long right winger who hated taxes of any type
but before he died, he voted for Kerry. Enough was enough.

Some of us saw the deep flaws in the selfish conservatism we grew up with and rejected it. Those of us who are lucky managed to reject the politics without rejecting our parents.

Never underestimate the ability of children to rebel against parents.

It goes the other way, too. I know offspring of peace/love hippie types who favored preppy fashion and have gone to business school and completely embrace every silly thing the right feeds them about economics. I guess growing up with a name like Rainbow Starshine has a deleterious effect on a kid.

6. My father's side are all frothing Repukes, dad too. Mom's side
varies. They all vote democratic, but it is a yellow dog thing for the most part. My Mom's mom just punched the "democratic party" button whenever she could. However, she was as frothingly conservative as my dad's folks. A klan member would have told her to quiet down on the racist rhetoric. She watched every single one of the TeleVangelists. I bet I threw away 2 large boxes of the crap they sent her for her "love offerings." The rest of that side varies from middle of the roaders with a slight leftish bent to moderately conservative.

2. There has to be a radical change of thinking in the world. Iraq is just...
terrible symptom of the problem.

8. Well, They were Screwing Us plenty...
No reason to think they wouldn't be doing each other. They just cannot see that they themselves are the best argument ever made for abortion rights (and contraception and even their own favorite, abstinence)--or maybe they're so pro-birth because they do realize that we'd be better off if their parents had rid themselves of their new, demented little mouths to feed.

9. Yep. That's why they insist on "Abstinence Only"
and discourage birth control of all forms, especially abortion. Especially for the poor. They need expendable youth.

(Well, it's only part of the reason, but, it makes sense, doesn't it?)

10. Somewhere here on DU, I read the following slogan...
"Of course it hurts,
You're being screwed by an elephant!"

My apologies to the original poster of this slogan for not being able to give credit.
