3. No ... this is the part in the script where a pissed off clown looks
around and watches his country get fucking stolen by a runaway one party government and all we seem able to do is cheerlead or whine when someone says one fucking thing in disagreement with this "My Candidate" or that "My Candidate".

There are days when DU looks more like Soap Opera Digest than a place to discuss ACTUAL FUCKING ISSUES.

.....and I guess that's the rant herein. :)

I love DU--where I find myself defending the guy I was labelled as "hating" two years ago...:rofl::rofl:

5. I support everyone who promotes what good Dems are doing
I don't like it when anyone bashes a Democrat, whether it's Kerry, Clark, Dean, or whoever. I think we all have an obligation to defend good Dems - even if they're not "my candidate" - from unfair smears. Constructive criticism is different, but such criticism should be made in a way that it is clear that you are not hatefully bashing said Democrat, but offering suggestions or opinions on something you think they did wrong or could do better.

I certainly don't mind seeing pro-Dean, pro-Clark, pro-Kerry, pro-Feingold, pro-whoever posts on DU. What I do mind are the bashing posts that insult a good Democrat - and yes, provoke the people who are inspired by that candidate - for no good reason.

6. I could NOT agree more! Not a bit more.
And that is ***exactly*** my point.

You win the Stinky The Clown "Gets It" award for today. Other responders get the home version.

The real difficulty is those who can't tolerate even a **hint** of criticism of their guy.

Just as an example, take the criticism du jour. A certain person made a clear misstatement in a teevee appearance. Then the person came back and owned the error, and went on to correct it. Lots of threads attacking the person. Some with good reason, some as gratuitous simian-like feces flinging. That begets threads started in support of the 'poor, maligned, gets no respect' 'My Guy'.

The honest criticism, even some of the more over the top crap, was okay. It was discussing an **issue**. The threads started by the passive-aggressive apologist crowd ... not so much.

Speaking just for me, it causes me to want to hate a person who I otherwise respect and admire ... just because the fan club is so obnoxious.

When will the fan clubbers learn they aren't helping "My Candidate"?

Positive posts because a Dem notable made a great speech or did a skilled smackdown on teevee or introduced a good bill or called for censure or impeachment or some other notable act .... fine. I think we all benefit from knowing that.

We accuse the Republicans of being a cult of personality. Sorry, but that coin has two sides ... and one is almost always on display right here in River City.
