29 is NOT the bottom
In the last few weeks ... maybe six or so .... there has been, for Il Dunce, an horrific convergence of trends.

We have the scandal-a-day cycle. The shit is going through the fan faster than the blades can fling it.

It has suddenly - and almost inexplicably - become not only correct, but downright fashionable to bash him.

The right wingers on our occupied media are turning on him. Not as stridently as we are, but they're turning. They still do the '<crap on bush> ... and so did Bill Clinton" thing, but Clinton is so 90s. Bush is bearing the brunt of it. The front page, above the fold USAToday story is but the latest example; and they forgot to even try to blame Clinton.

His party's faithful are leaving him in droves. The Libertarian types left a while ago. Now the old timey conservatives are fleeing. Can the neocons be far behind?

He's undoing himself by lying. He got away with it before, but now he's seen for what he is. A liar.

He's been losing a point a week for the last little while. 29 is the last of that rate. He's accelerating. It will soon enough approach 2 points week. But that will be the end.

He will poll in a way that tells the truth. As so many here have stated so often. He will prove himself to poll just like what he is.

The worst President ..... ever.

Poppy: 29 (Like father, like son? Nope. Junior will eclipse Poppy.)
Carter: 28
Nixon: 24
Harry S: 23

Let's see ...... 29 .... is very close to 28 ....... only 5 points above Nixon ..... and a mere 6 points above the previous presidential Absolute Zero .... 23.

At the new rate of 2 points a week ... and allowing for a holiday ... I give him a month to the new Absolute Zero.

I predict ..... 22.

1. Hope it's just the beginning...
How "Low" can you go? Bush has shown he has no limits--he's as "Low" as they come, perhaps his numbers will continue to approach the percentage of honesty/integrity he has as a man (in other words, being kind, at most 0%).

3. I'm betting he dips below 25 just as soon as Rove is indicted....

The feeding frenzy will begin as soon as Rove is charged-- THAT'S Bush's event horizon, beyond which there is no return.

5. Yep, Rove will be the reality check for other Repubs to check out ....
I am betting that Rove will bring down the approval rating to 25%, but here is the kicker --Rove will do anything to avoid jail, so he may just blame Cheney and Scooter.

Now if Cheney is indicted, or if he just resigns for "health reasons", you can take away another 3-5% and Bush will be teetering at going below 20%. (BTW "health reasons" for Cheney means it would be bad for his health to continue as Vice President AND at the same time be criminally indicted).

4. Here's a unique way of looking at it:

To: lauriehelds

The only person President Bush needs approval from is Jesus Christ. And based on what I know of the man, I believe he has that. Everthing else is "vanity and vexation of spirit".

8. Truman info from Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_S._Truman

The Korean War was to remain a stalemate until a cease fire took effect on July 27, 1953 under President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The war and dismissal of MacArthur made Truman so unpopular that he did not seek a third term in the 1952 election -- even though he would have been the last President eligible to do so.

(snip)

In 1950 the Senate, led by Estes Kefauver investigated numerous charges of corruption among senior administration officials, some of whom received fur coats and deep freezers for favors. The Internal Revenue Service was involved. In 1950, 166 IRS employees either resigned or were fired, and a number were facing indictments from the Department of Justice on a variety of tax-fixing and bribery charges, including the Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Tax Division. When Attorney General Howard McGrath fired the special prosecutor for being too zealous, Truman fired McGrath. Historians agree that Truman himself was innocent and unaware--with one exception. In 1945 Mrs Truman became the recipient of a new, expensive, hard-to-get deep freezer. The businessman who provided the gift was the president of a perfume company and, thanks to Truman's aide and confidante, General Harry Vaughan, received priority to fly to Europe days after the war ended, where he bought new perfumes. On the way back he "bumped" a wounded veteran being flown home. Disclosure of the episode in 1949 humiliated Truman, and he responded by vigorously defending Vaughan, who was involved in multiple influence peddling scandals from his White House office.

Charges that Soviet agents had infiltrated the government bedevilled the Truman administration and became a major campaign issue for Eisenhower in 1952. In 1947 Truman set up loyalty boards to investigate espionage among federal employees. In 1947-1952, "about 20,000 government employees were investigated, some 2500 resigned “voluntarily,” and 400 were fired. Truman himself later admitted that the loyalty program was the biggest single mistake of his presidency.
