You just deny that any of this is really his doing - it is all because of Congress or some other govt. agencies. Bush didn't even know about it.

That is what I got this morning from my best friend who is a Republican. She simply doesn't believe that he had anything to do with the wire taps. Didn't know anything about it.

What she has done is simply disengaged from the whole argument. Doesn't read about it, doesn't even want to hear about it.

Interesting way to look at things, don't you think?

2. "Didn't know anything about it." Isn't that WORSE?
"it is all because of Congress"

That has a Republican majority?

"or some other govt. agencies"

That are controlled by Republicans (or AREN'T they controlled?)?

The more they try to justify their choice, the smaller that corner gets.

3. The same woman would also say it was someone elses fault her
drunk mate came home and beat her up. When you see this kind of behavior in one part of their lives you can pretty much bet the farm that she does the same thing in other areas of her life.

4. Typical fanatic response
When someone or something threatens their beliefs, they stick their fingers in their ears and go "La la la la la". Mental programing common to cults and the like.

5. It was like citizens of the Soviet Union
who had themselves or loved ones locked up in the Gulags, pleading to send a message to Comrade Stalin, saying that there was a mistake, that some low level guy was incompetent. That Stalin could never starve the Ukrainians or deport Chechens, or have millions executed, especially "Good Communists".

6. Yea. Odd, isn't it?
I think these people just don't want to admit that they were so wrong about someone. Everyone made such a big deal over it before the elections and now they just don't want to eat crow.

So you just ignore the whole thing and hope that it will go away. Which it probably will - in time.

What is really strange is that she is a very devout Catholic and they are so against the war. They come out against the war at every Mass.

10. I've heard this also

the proper response it to point out that if this is true - Bush didn't know about torture, or wiretaps, or Plame or whatever - this only demostrates that he is not in charge. Not only is he not in charge, he is completely out of touch with reality. Either the man is evil or incompetent. You can't have it both ways.

{added on edit]
Either Bush is the kingpin, the decider, the commander-in-chimp and therefore is responsible for all of this, or he is a figurehead who has no power and should not be in office (and certainly not worshipped by these people).

11. It's not worth the fight. She has been my friend for 25 years.
Her whole family is pro-Bush.

They know I don't agree. I don't want to push it any further.
