Bush visit to Florida...they aimed assualt rifles out the door at seniors!
Narrative re: Bush's visit to SCC on May 9, 2006 from dabonich

We stood with about 50 others on rte 674 and when the motorcade came by there was assault rifle OUT the window pointing at ALL of us and the cars all looked like I remember seeing in the Hitler motorcades in the movies when I was a child, all boxy and black and one had the Pres seal and American flag on the sides. It was absolutely chilling! I worked the inner city for 15 years with gangs and even with kids and families of the Bloods and Crips and have never had an assault rifle pointed my way. In my 75 years I have seen many Pres motorcades and shook many pres hands and seen many pres elects and their entourage but never anything like this with the motorcycles, big black cars and rifles were just the very last straw. It wasn't the rifle that was scary it was knowing that this madman is so insecure and scared and psychotic that this is how he must travel. AARRRRRGH! USA, Banana Republic for sure. Then to know our tax money paid for this photo op and for the fundraising luncheon at the Renaissance Club is truly the icing on the cake which will kill us all. Very depressing to say the least.
How is this different? Look at a story from Nixon's time...
our 5th District Congressional candidate. And he told me the exact same story.

He said it was scary.

Now, I've been politically active for over 30 years. When I was in Washington DC. for Nixon's second inauguration. I was with a couple of dozen Yippee's. Remember Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin? We were part of that group.
But, at that time we had purged Abbie and Jerry, and had crazier spokesmen, such as A. J. Weeberman, Dana Beale, and Tom Forcade (founder and editor of "High Times"). Our Madison, Wisconsin chapter had brought down approximately 13,000 dead laboratory rats. We had a papier mache "rat" with Nixon's head, designed to fit over my VW Bug, as a float, for "Rats for Nixon", and tried to enter it in the inaugural parade. They denied us, but we did manage to throw all those dead rats at Nixswines mototcade. It made national TV news.

But, we never, ever saw a gun pointed at any of us.

This was after Kent State. There were major (millions) anti-war demonstrations that week in Washington D.C..

But, we never saw any guns.

Bush Motorcade Aims Assault Rifles At Protesters In Florida

Eyewitnesses are reporting that during Bush's recent visit to Florida, protesters were shocked to see security goons and secret service aiming assault rifles at them hanging out of the window of the passing motorcade.

Should we be surprised that ordinary bill of rights exercising Americans are treated like terrorists in light of the latest revelations on the NSA spying program?

Is this Nepal or America?

Accounts provided to the Daily Kos website are reprinted below.

Narrative re: Bush's visit to SCC on May 9, 2006 from Barbara Nicholson
<snip>
From an intern for Congressional candidate John Russell (FL-5):
Here is my full story, with everything correct. As you know I am interning with John Russell, a candidate in District 5 running against Ginny Brown-Waite. We went to the protest to make sure bush heard about the problems with Medicare Part D. As the President drove by John was delivering his message to the President, who was looking at us out the window. I don't remember if it was before or after the President's car, but inside on of the black suv's was a man holding, what looked to be, an automatic rifle out the window. It was pointed at the protesters. I am glad to hear that the people on the other side of the street saw this too. Those of us on the corner I was on couldn't believe that this had occurred, and John proceeded to tell President Bush as he got out of the motorcade, 'how dare you point a weapon at civil protesters' among other things. It was a very interesting day for me, being the first time I have ever seen the President, and the first time I have been directly threatened by the President. hopefully this helps in lining up the stories. Please send this out to everyone, and keep the talk growing. I want to know if this is standard operating procedure for the Bush motorcade, or a one time thing.

15. On reflection, I think that everything that Bush has done to avoid
confrontation with dissenters has been done because he knows how far he's stepping outside legal parameters. The "First Amendment" segregation zones; the federal government's quick response plan to any emergency is Martial Law first, first aid second; hand-picked supporters for public appearances; Mack trucks parked along the road for cover.

I think they always knew that what they were doing was beyond legal. The only thing I don't know is if they plan to stay and fight, or take flight.

16. What makes this even more sad...
Bush was riding in one of the most secure vehicles on the planet. Exactly how scared do you have to be in order to be riding in a car which can most likely survive a missle and still think you need an armed gunman to stare down those who disagree with you?

18. Hi there!
:hi: Belle is really wonderful. She has moderate movement in her back left leg, but full movement in her right. I don't think she's going to be able to herd anymore... at least nothing larger than ducks (maybe, haven't had her out to try yet).

We've left the ramps up around the house so that she can continue to use them for getting on and off the bed, sofa and so-forth. I know she appreciates because she hasn't tried a more direct route yet. Her hair has mostly grown back. At least it is to the point where strangers can no longer tell something happened.

The vet wants to do another set of x-rays and maybe go back in surgically on the left leg. We're debating if we want to put her through anything else. I guess if there is pain in that leg and the vet thinks it can be corrected we'd probably do it... but I'm not sure the added range of movement would be worth the additional surgery at this point.

I think the worst of it is going to be psychological. I've tried 2-3 times to take her out to the dog park. She gets out of the car, but the moment she sees the other dogs, she sits and cries. If you try to walk with her to the run area, she refuses and will head back to the car and sit by door. She's only allowed one dog (a neighbor's dog she's known since she was a pup) close to her. It seems all others, even those much smaller than her, are no longer trusted.

I've got a call into my dog trainer friend to help with this, but I'm not sure she'll ever be the same again.

In any event, thank you so much for checking on her. She's curled up under my desk as I type -- right where she should be. :)

20. So happy to hear she is doing as well as she is.
I can totally understand her reluctance to trust other dogs after what she went thru.
It is so sad to think that it must be a memory that she may always have.
Guess it will take lots of patience and understanding to get her past that.

Every now and then, do drop a post in the Pets Forum to keep us current on how she is doing. She is such a sweetie.

Thanks for the response.

21. Out in the boondocks
You could be out walking the dog not knowing there was a presidential photo op under way in town and you'd see a bunch of red dots playing over your vitals. believe me, this could be even worse than seeing the barrel first. The slow dawning of the terror was never prepared for by the slap happy news of course.

Maybe he is going out a bit to ADVERTISE to the vengeful masses- wherever they are- that you'd better not. Just better not even think about it.

Surprisingly- and this speaks very hopefully about the supposedly violent savage human race and the small m mob- that millions of outraged people are not getting their guns and strapping on explosives. Apparently they do believe there must come a time in Bush's utopian agenda when such things must happen.
