Kennedy Plane Diverted After Losing Power
:scared:

BOSTON (AP) - A plane carrying U.S Sen. Edward M. Kennedy across Massachusetts was struck by lightning and had to be diverted to New Haven, Conn., his spokeswoman said.

The plane lost all electrical power and the pilot had to fly the plane manually, according to spokeswoman Melissa Wagoner. No one was hurt.

The Democrat had just delivered the commencement address at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams and was on his way his Cape Cod home when the plane was struck at about 2:45 p.m., she said.

Kennedy planned to stay in Connecticut overnight because he was scheduled to deliver another commencement address at Springfield College on Sunday, she said.

The incident was reported to the Federal Aviation Administration, Wagoner said.

The FAA did not immediately return a call.

6. my thought, too
I'll never believe that plane that went down in Queens was honestly a malfunction. Too easy for Crashcart to make it happen.

7. Man alive!
How many awful things can happen to one family in vehicles!? Even Ted was in a plane crash himself.

From wikipedia:
In 1964, Kennedy was in a plane crash in which the pilot and one of Kennedy's aides were killed. He was pulled from the wreckage by fellow senator Birch E. Bayh II (D-Ind.) and spent weeks in a hospital recovering from a severe back injury, a punctured lung, broken ribs, and internal bleeding.

... that Patrick Fitzgerald (even sounds like a Kennedy) better stay off of airplanes until his work is done.

Frankly, I hope he's dressed head-to-toe in bulletproof clothing, too. He's going after some pretty bad dudes.

13. This is VERY odd. North Adams and Cape Cod are nowhere NEAR NH
North Adams is in the far northwest corner of Massachussetts, at the Mass/NY/VT border. As the crow flies, he would never even cross Connecticut. He'd cross central Mass on a diagonal, cross Rhode Island (maybe), and then on into Cape Cod. At no time should he have been closer than 100 miles or more from New Haven. And there are **many** other airports that would have been able to take a disabled plane. Both Providence and Hartford are closer to the route and handle sscheduled full size jets. New Haven can also handle big jets, but these days gets only commuter planes.

This makes no sense at all.

In the map below, North Adams is just below the 'y' in 'Albany'. There airports in most of the small towns along the route, and Hartford would ahve been a better diversion. Depending on how far into the lfight they were, Providence is virtually a fly-over for them.

Bush's assassination attempt on Sen. Kennedy was thwarted. The good guys win again.
