We always have "How did you discover DU?" threads (I think there might even be one going on today)...

My story is short and simple. Bill O'Reilly made such a stink over Al Franken's "Lies And The Lying Liars Who Tell Them" book that my curiosity was piqued and I bought it.

Then I discovered that I didn't know who Karl Rove was.

This bloated, corrupt pig...this "shadow warrior," this "whisper campaigner," this whistle-blower of Senators with illegitimate black children who are neither illegitimate nor black...

So I Googled Karl Rove, to educate myself. And in doing so, I stumbled across DU. I read the posts for a few weeks, joined, read the posts some more, started posting, started contributing, and two and a half years and 16000+ posts later the man who brought me here might be in SERIOUS legal jeopardy.

People on DU are fond of saying that we "can't sink to Karl Rove's level" to win elections. But in order for us to buck the trend of the last two presidential "elections," Karl Rove needs to be TAKEN OUT OF THE EQUATION.

Maybe Patrick Fitgerald will level the playing field next week, or soon...

5. We're W-A-Y overdue...
I've been struggling all day with Truthout's indictment news...I'll feel a LOT better when it's in the mainstream media...but we can't endure two more years of relentless, steamroller politics.

It's not that I don't TRUST Truthout...it's just that, like most Americans, I'll believe it when I hear it on Fox, CNN, MSNBC...THAT will be Karl Rove's "point of no return." I've heard about the indictment from Truthout, but I haven't heard about it from Patrick Fitzgerald. Until I do, any victory laps I take will be slow and cautious.

Bush got his tax cuts into 2010. We're SO FAR PAST "our grandkids" paying for them...MAYBE "great grandkids," maybe beyond THAT.

NSA phone call databases and Junior devoting today's radio address to his demand that the architect of that program be installed as CIA head?

Patriot Act extensions?

"Guest Worker Programs" so that the GOP can court the Latino vote? Has anyone stopped to think about the ADMINISTRATION COSTS of a "guest worker program"...or WHO'S going to PAY for it?

Roberts and Scalito on the Supreme Court?

How can people call Bush a lame duck when he keeps getting EVERYTHING HE WANTS (and yes, I DO believe that Harriet Meiers was a big, fat RED HERRING. He lost NOTHING on that one. Outrage from his "base?" Give me a BREAK. In the final analysis, he got lifetime appointments for two neocons. Where did he "lose?"

Where does it end? I don't know. But I can tell you where it can BEGIN...

Karl Rove. Early retirement. Behind bars or not. Just get him out of the damned White House.

As long as the worm stays in the barrel, he's gonna eat his way through ALL of the apples.

:patriot:

PS: I'm glad you're here too!

4. Much Needed Justice...
still, truth be told, "Real Justice" would necessarily involve a life sentence in a place resembling the old Russian gulags (even our modern equivalents wouldn't dispense proper treatment for crimes of this sort). Such Justice would necessarily involve not just Rove, but all of his associates with particular emphasis on his President and his key advisers.

Considering the harm these people have caused to the world and our country, to ourselves and our posterity... there is no punishment too dire. Certainly our own humane justice system, even with it's terrible and inhumane flaws doesn't reach such a degree of punishment as they deserve. Of course, they will probably never face charges for even the tiniest fraction of their crimes--crimes with either can't be proven or which don't formally break our laws. Such is the way of those with vast power and wealth. Still, the fact that they've broken and corrupted so many of our own actual laws as well as those of the International Court (to which we intentionally, but conveniently, don't answer) but almost certainly won't ever be held accountable is a deep wound to the concept of Justice.

At such times, one almost hopes that there is an ultimate justice after our lives are over or at least that Karma will be against them for nearly an eternity. Alas, the only Justice that counts is that which is dispensed in this life. As the world is more filled with injustice than not, this is but another drop in the bucket. So the cookie crumbles.

Happily, if there is indeed a criminal indictment and successful prosecution of this one offender at this time--at least we can appreciate it to the degree it prevents him from contributing even greater harm. He's the ultimate predator enabler and adviser; let them do without. The top leaders are fairly incompetent and couldn't have gotten this far without the Rove's of the world and since they're already beginning to lose it--this could be just the thing to speed their impending failure.

Whether it's enough to allow us to bring some balance back to our government in November remains to be seen, but it must surely help. Even if we can't stop the bleeding or begin repairing the damage by then, if it keeps him out of the workings of the present administration, at least it will also help mitigate the further damage produced by them in their remaining two and a half years. Hopefully, it will be the certain beginning of the end for this crowd of predators.

If he is convicted, we should declare that day to be a Democratic Holiday for years to come; it will certainly be cause for formal celebration!
