Cleveland Plain Dealer Whining About Kucinich Victory
Edited on Sun May-14-06 08:17 AM by OzarkDem
Their ongoing attempt to erode his popularity by painting him as an ultra left, kooky liberal have failed again.

"The vultures can stop circling Dennis Ku cinich. The voters aren't yet ready to turn him into roadkill.

Kucinich assured himself a sixth term in Congress on May 2, easily turning back a Democratic Party primary challenge from Barbara Ferris. Kucinich will meet -- and beat -- Republican Michael Dovilla in the general election.

What was noteworthy about Kucinich's victory was that it followed increased speculation among political insiders that this primary might finally expose him as vulnerable. Not that they expected Kucinich to lose to Ferris, but lots of folks who pay attention to these things thought she might succeed in garnering upwards of 40 percent of the Democratic vote. "

Advice to the Pee Dee and their GOP masters - take a heavy dose of reality; Dennis is a good legislator and his constituents know it. Clevelanders aren't as easy for you to dupe as they once were. People vote for substance in the 10th District, not style or spin.

1. Really appreciate this post, OzarkDem. Another Pee Dee tantrum.

4. They're still mad at him for 2004
When he stayed in the presidential race to prevent the GOP from splintering the Green/Indpendent/Nader voters. Dennis presidential campaign kep those voters in the Dem tent, giving them a voice.

3. He does, he has great staff
I've even seen them help people who live in Steve LaTourette's district. (Lord knows LaTourette won't help them).

5. This is pretty sad,
" Whatever. As for his big win, Kucinich offered this trite explanation, "The seat doesn't belong to me. It belongs to the people. I've always felt that you do the best you can and let the people decide."

With that line, Kucinich is feeding voters pure pablum. But as May 2 proved, they seem to think it tastes pretty good."

THAT is pure pablum? Whatever.

There are some interesting points in that article about attacking, made no sense what so ever. This guy really writes for a paper?

7. He's the real power at the PD
PD editorial is run by Sen. George Voinovich, Alex Machaskee and Brent Larkin.

Larkin has been playing these games with Dem candidates for years, phony polls, etc.

6. Only Larkin thinks Dems were annoyed that Dennis stayed in the Pres Primar
Kucinich topped off his strange presidential journey by angering many of his Democratic colleagues, refusing to withdraw from the race long after John Kerry locked up the nomination.

Brent Larkin writes a lot of lame material. I suppose that Larkin and Kevin O'Brien are the two gops on the PD editorial board.

8. You nailed it right there, OD - the people aren't as easy to dupe as they
once were.

That is true of Cleveland and almost everywhere else in this country.

A shame it took the strength of a category 5 hurricane to blow back the 6 years of media lies that protected the Bushboy - THAT is how powerful the media had become.

We can't let the wall Katrina blew down be allowed to rebuild - no matter how hard they've been working to rebuild it.

11. Very nicely put blm
But with global warming, there are likely now to be a series of Cat 5's blowing away a lot of walls that were erected to separate people from the truth. We are just heading into the 2006 "Hurricane season".

I wonder when it will register on this paper that it is not a good idea to insult the intelligence of the people who they want to sell their rag to.

19. One of the top guys at the PD is
married to a cousin of mine - the publisher and the top brass there are enslaved by big business in that town. The actual reporters and columnists are often at odds with their managing editors.

especially Connie Schultz, who has taken a leave of absence to work on her husband's campaign - Sherrod Brown.

10. Congratulations Dennis. Two questions.
1. I had heard he was considering a run for the Governorship. What happened there?

2. Who is Gary Kucinich? - He has the endorsement of www.impeachpac.org

http://www.garykucinich.us/index.php

welcome to GaryKucinich.us!

You know GARY KUCINICH. You know what he stands for. GARY KUCINICH was elected Cleveland City Councilman, and elected to the Cleveland City School Board. The people of Northeast Ohio know and trust the integrity of the GARY KUCINICH. They know Gary, who as a sales manager for John Lance Ford brought integrity to the auto business. They know Gary through his wife and children who have grown up and still live in Strongsville and who are active participants in the life of the Strongsville schools and community. We know Gary as a Marine Corps veteran, the son of a Marine veteran, and the father of a United States Marine now serving in Iraq. Serving their county with honor is a hallmark of the Kucinich family.

He ran for Congress in the 13th District, formerly Sherrod Brown's seat (he's now running for US Senate).

13. Remain *On Guard* - They can make noise and then steal the election.
They don't *have* to change minds - they just make noise so that after they steal it they have 'plausible explanations' such as: "The voters are fed up with ultra-liberal Kucinich, they were influenced by the Plain Dealer editorials."

Remain *On Guard* !!

14. Always, they're after Sherrod Brown even more
They've already published phony Mason Dixon poll numbers about his race with DeWine.

Expect to see a lot of "hit pieces", they're already labeling Sherrod as "far left like Dennis Kucinich".

A place that votes for substance over style or spin? The voters should congratulate themselves for not being stupid.

18. Plains Dealer publisher is a major right-winger
Remember when the editorial board voted overwhelmingly to endorse Kerry over Bush, and the publisher overruled them? As I recall, they ended up endorsing neither.

I also remember the Plains Dealer being downright ugly to all of the Democratic candidates in '04. I know they repeated every possible Clark smear, right or left. But that was partly personal vendetta. That publisher (wish I could remember his name, but not worth the time to look up) is a Serb American who railed against our efforts in both Bosnia and Kosovo.

Major congrats to Dennis!! Here's to a landslide for him in November! :bounce:

I find this tendency to waste money and energy on unseating Democrats extremely perverse in a year like this one.

25. Tony George
Owner of restaurants who fancies himself a political player. He usually supports Repubs, but ocassionally raises money for Dems.

Larkin's column also hints that some other Dems from the more conservative wing of the local party may have been behin it.

Few take them seriously due to their political slant. They represent the business establishment DK has always stood up to.
