Jane Harman: It's a 'lawless White House, out of control'
Rep. Jane Harman D-Calif.) was on Face the Nation this morning with Arlen Specter. She was asked whether she thought the WH was breaking FISA and she nearly jumped out of her seat to stomp all over it, referring to a "lawless White House, out of control."

It was such a stunning statement that Bob Schieffer repeated it. Specter, of course, did not agree.

2. Harman is a puzzle
I wish I knew the truth on her. Hoekstra says she knew about this for years and was OK with it. She seems to say what she thinks people want to hear but does the opposite.

5. Marcy Winograd is scaring Keep Your Powder Dry Jane into
being more forceful and committed in her statements. The Winograd sigs are everywhere when I am in LA. Jane Harmon not so much.

Two lawmakers demand Bush obey laws
Say Congress is owed Patriot Act reports
By Charlie Savage, Globe Staff | March 28, 2006

WASHINGTON -- Two senior Democratic House members yesterday demanded that President Bush withdraw his assertion that he can ignore portions of the USA Patriot Act calling on him to provide periodic reports to Congress on how new law-enforcement tactics are being used.
....
''We ask that the administration immediately rescind this statement and abide by the law," the lawmakers wrote. ''Many members who supported the final law did so based upon the guarantee of additional reporting and oversight. The administration cannot, after the fact, unilaterally repeal provisions of the law implementing such oversight."

8. Really??
When Jane Harman says something like that, it's a big deal. People keep saying they want sound bites, then when they're given beauts like this, they completely ignore them.

9. Does Jane Harman have any political aspirations beyond Congress?
She might be someone to consider in 2008 - at least for VP.
