at 63 years of age, this year was the first he had to give his social security number to buy a hunting license. When he asked why, he was told the information was being collected for the Department of Homeland Security - federal. He's always had to show his driver's license but that's a state record thing. He lives in PA.
As per the GCA of '68 all firearms sales require a form to be filled out containing info on and signed by the purchaser. How difficult would it be to gather said information from those vendors. D__S is correct in that sales between individuals do not require any paperwork.
I suspect we all may be really shocked when we ultimately find out just how much spying and collecting has been going on. With this regime I'll bet the phone stuff is the proverbial tip of the iceberg.
