Attack on Central Valley Assembly candidate called heartless
......

The headline of the direct mail piece -- in blood red ink, no less: "Tom Berryhill doesn't have the HEART for State Assembly."

.....

The Average Lifespan of a Heart Transplant recipient is 7 years," followed by the none-too-subtle observation that "Berryhill's transplant was 6 years ago."

.....

But, "Wait! There's more!," as those folks say on the infomercials.

....

The word around the water coolers in the Central Valley -- and those are busy places -- is that Conrad has "lost all credibility and anyone who was even thinking of pulling the lever for him should think twice. He has absolutely no compassion," said Mejia.

2. It's not clear from the article
but are they both GOP candidates running in a primary, or is Berryhill a Democrat?

An attack of this nature is so far beyong the pale, it should utterly sink Conrad's campaign. As well it should.

As far as "7 years being the average survival rate" goes:

I happen to have a volunteer who delivers meals for our program as well as another program one day a week, works at the homeles shelter one night a week; drives cancer patients to their chemo at least one day a week -and is a very active Democrat (LTTE, marching & vigils,etc.). He does all this -and more - to "repay society for the heart". I've forgotten his exact age - but he's in his late 70's. He has his transplant in 1987. That's 19 years ago.

edit to add: Berryman is a Republican. Conrad is still a jackass and an embarassment.
