The Patriot Project to combat swiftboating - Judith Droz Keyes letter
The Patriot Project is on the job. This is a great pro-active organization dedicated to stopping swiftboating of veterans. Any of you who haven't joined yet, can sign up for their newsletter. http://www.patriotproject.com

Dear XXXX,

Over the last two weeks The Patriot Project has been contacting veterans running for the House and Senate encouraging them to publicly release their military records. These men and women have served our country bravely and are now seeking public office to set the country on a new course.

Our counsel to release their military records is a pre-emptive step against the attack apparatuses that will surely seek to publicize blatant lies about their service during the upcoming mid-term election.

The Patriot Project needs your help to continue this work.

It's a pattern we have seen over and over again: candidates - Republicans and Democrats - become the targets of coordinated smear campaigns in which their military records are questioned and distorted when they dissented on U.S. foreign policy. Kerry, Cleland, McCain, Murtha ... this tactic will surely be used again in the upcoming mid-term elections.

We simply cannot remain silent while men and women who have served proudly and honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States of America are attacked as unpatriotic for expressing their views on U.S. foreign policy. In a democracy, citizens have a right, even a duty, to speak out when they believe their government is wrong in policy or action.

That is why we created The Patriot Project and we need your support. Click https://secure.ga3.org/03/patriotproject to support The Patriot Project.

The Patriot Project employs research, public education, media outreach and a rapid response mechanism to expose the organizations attacking the patriotism of veterans who question U.S. foreign policy. Please visit our site to show your support by donating to the Patriot Project and to learn more about the players behind the smear campaigns.

To speak out is true patriotism, especially in the face of personal attacks and most especially when those attacks are lies. We urge you to join this fight, and exercise your right to speak out today.

Sincerely
Judith Droz Keyes
President

1. The correct response to "swiftboating" is lawsuits.

3. Lawsuits drag on for years and offer a great boon in publicity for
the people being sued. Lawsuits would give them more coverage. A better idea is to boycott any media that gives them air time. An organization like this can be a great sprinboard for such actions.

It would be a big mistake to give any of these swiftboater types more air time. They would LOVE a lawsuit. It would be a fantastic national platform for them.

No, I think this is far better: stop them by killing their credibility. Let Veterans stand in unity and support other veterans.

5. Probably - but, having a rapid response team in place is a GREAT idea that
will swat down the lies in a PREPARED fashion before they can cause serious damage.

Personally, I think the tactic the RNC has employed went so overboard with Kerry that they pretty much outed themselves as willing to go as far as it takes to smear a veteran. I don't think the public will allow themselves to be as easily swayed, now that they know what extent the WH will go to - even outing a CIA agent.

The cumulative effect is showing in the poll numbers.

But, I am so proud that good people have put this project together - it is a noble mission they have undertaken.

2. Excellent. I read into their posts
and they are tracking the money on who is funding these assaults on Democrats. Their piece on where the money came from to fund the ads extolling all the good things that were happening in Iraq was excellent.

This is an excellent way to do on-going research into who is funding the RW liars. Great organization. They deserve support.

4. Quite correct. Exposure is the KEY here.
There are always hidden sponsors of this kind of crap and outing them is one of the fastest ways to put an end to this nonsense.
