Dick Morris On "Beating Hillary"
http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/books/66300.htm

WE seem to have a three-party system in America today: the Democrats, the Republicans and the Anti-Hillary. The party opposed to the former first lady is not united by ideology, party, race, ethnicity, religion, geography, wealth or educational level. It is composed of the enlightened many who believe her to be devoid, at once, of character, integrity and principle.

So we of the third party will welcome the bromide from New York Post columnist John Podhoretz's "Can She Be Stopped?" because it has a happy ending. Podhoretz assures us she can be. If the GOP nominates Rudy Giuliani and if the party doesn't rip itself apart over abortion and if Hillary's opponent can "smoke her out" on the issues and highlight her misguided health-care debacle. If, if, if.

The problem with Podhoretz's user guide to Hillary hating is that it was obsolete the day it emerged, fully clothed, from his computer. The Hillary scandal is a gift that keeps on giving.

In all likelihood, the ethical issue of 2008 won't be Whitewater, the pardon of Hillary's brothers' clients, the FALN terrorist pardons designed to win her the Hispanic vote or the theft of White House china.

and that so many DU'ers here would agree with him.

Pathetic.

One can sometimes assess their opinion by the company that agrees, and agreeing with rabid Republicans on any issue surely must cause one pause.

Dick Morris has the integrity of toe jam. Ha, ha, ha, I said toes ...

6. I'm no great fan of Hillary
Edited on Sun May-21-06 05:51 PM by ruggerson
And I hope she loses in the primaries, but if she wins the nomination I will work my butt off for her.

I am truly disgusted by all the so called "liberals" who trash her here on a daily basis.

They should go wallow in Dick Morris' filth.

11. It boils down to she has to win votes just like any other candidate
I'm from California, so I never saw any of her Senate campaign in New York. She must have done a fairly good job though, the repukes can really find a candidate to run against her. I'm not a Hillary fan, nor a hater. If she wins the primaries, I will vote for her in the general election, period. I have a gut feeling she would make a good president. Her husband thinks she is very bright, and I have a lot confidence in his judgment.
Being from California, I haven't gotten to see much of the primary campaigns in recent years. We don't really see even much of the general campaigns. California hasn't been in play for a number of elections.
The trashing of Hillary is misguided. A lot of lefties expect too much of her.
Once again, if she wins the necessary share of the primaries, I will vote for her in the general election and be glad to do so.

5. Giuliani will be the one to make Repukes stay home and not vote
Right wing fundies will sit on their hands before they vote for him. I think they'd talk themselves into voting for just about anyone else no matter how angry they are right now. Even the Mormon governor of Massachusetts. But never for Rudi - mark my words.

9. If you read farther into it
he says:

Podhoretz urges Republicans to set aside ideology and social issues and unite to prevent the ascension to the White House of one of the most liberal and unethical political figures of our time.

and

The supreme irony is that Hillary, a dyed-in-the-wool leftist, is being hoist by the opportunistic stand she took, likely against her better judgment, to burnish her commander-in-chief credentials by backing the war in Iraq. Hillary, the most leftist politician of our times, is being attacked for excessive moderation.

The yapping anti-Hillary crowd at DU plays RIGHT into the hands of the rightwingers who enjoy watching her her left flank weakened.

And he's right. At heart, she's a liberal. And I would bet that her presidency would be the most progressive one in decades.

When these Hillary-haters on the left do nothing but attack attack attack, they're doing nothing but aiding in their own demise.

20. I wonder who is playing into who's hands?
Remembering that Dick Morris was political adviser to the Clinton's you wonder who side he is really on? My guess is the one that pays the best.

Here Dicky paints her as a leftist liberal. Is she?
And the MSM paints her as the front runner. Is she? Or we just being once again played for the suckers we have become to manipulation.
I have nothing against Hillary or Bill, but I think the times say that we should not trust anyone over 30 (years in Washington political society) and get some one that lives in the real world and is loyal to the rest of us.

13. Dick has been so in tune about how to beat Hillary
dickie's insights on Hillary's political career.

1. She'll never win in New York. They'll see her as a carpet bagger and reject her.
2. She's at 40%, she'll never get any higher. The Democrats should replace her immediately.
3. She'll be a one-term Senator.
4. priro will beat Hillary.
5. Hillary should get out of the race. Priro will be a very strong opponent. She'll have to spend at
least ten million dollars. And, she'll probably lose.

Thanks for your analysis dickie. It's obvious, based on your track record, that you have a keen insight into politics when it comes to Sen Clinton.

14. Neocons are convinced & worried to death that Hillary can't be beat
or that she at least poses a huge threat to them in 2008. I guess that's why they spend just about every waking hour worrying and thinking up ways to beat her.

Then you've got the Democratic Underground, where the vast majority of posters are convinced she can't POSSIBLY win. Figure that! Repukes are worried in the worst nightmares that Hillary will become president, and most DU'ers are claiming that scenario just isn't possible. LOL

I think she'd trounce Giuliani. The guy is revolting. Then again, so weren't Bush and Cheney.

16. Lots of republicans seem to want her nominated...
Although I'm not sure exactly why. I'd guess because they find it easier to trash her than other potential candidates. Or maybe they're scared shitless of Gore. Or just scared shitless. I really don't understand the anti-Hillary hysteria, but lots of people seem to take it REAL seriously. Me, I guess I just watch with amusement. I like to see Republicans abuse themselves.

25. Dick Morris also said Dean would easily win the 2004 Dem nomination
Go back to the 2004 Iowa Caucuses...I found this article, but there are several more than disappeared from the web in which Dick Morris guaranteed a Dean victory, and then a loss to Bush in November.

"While they are still scrounging for funds to get off the ground, convincing donors that they can win, Dean will have pulverized the airwaves - and the Internet -with his message. His momentum will leave them choking in his dust."
