Commencement Speeches Check-in
I read here from time to time about this person or that making a commencement speech.

Bush at the community college was pointless and pure, 100% pandering. I discount it as a real speech.

McCain made two ... one at a religiofascist madrasas 'university' and the other at New College where he was soundly, roundly, and righteously rjected.

I read of Kerry having made at least one. Of Clark having made at least two. I **think I read of Edwards making one, but I'm not sure about that.

Just a quick check-in ..... who has made what commencement speeches?

10. The Emerson one is on

It was extremely well received. The kids clearly loved him before he said a word, so he likley could have read the phone book. I never saw so many Kerry smiles in such a short time - it was a very atypical commencement speech.

The Kenyon College Speech which had a live stream was the absolutley best commencement speech I have ever heard. Kerry met with Kenyon allumnis in DC before writing it. His respect and admiration for the students and the school really came through. The speech was inspiring, humourous, and very well crafted. The student who introduced her spoke of who impressed the allumni who met him were. It was clear that she was incredibly happy he was there.

3. How was it received?
I should have asked that in the OP. That's really what I was getting to ... as contrast to McCain's New College thng.

4. To ADD to the OP - how was the speech received?
Which is really why I asked the question ... for example, as contrast to McCain's New College dust-up.

6. At Emerson , a blogger noted:

"It is so heart warming to see those kids whooping and hollering for the man who should have been President. While most of us have always known the Senator can be a funny guy, this speech is speckled with a lot more humor than most, with a few partisan jabs as well.

“Tonight the president gives a major speech on immigration. That’s what I love about Washington-a president who has difficulty speaking English complaining about people who have difficulty speaking English.”

Most importantly, the Senator reminds the students that “truth” is the foundation of our democracy and that dissent is the voice of truth that triggers change"
