Bush regrets saying "Bring 'em on"
In his press conference with Tony Blair, when asked about mistakes and regrets over Iraq, Bush expressed regret over rhetoric he used.

Rhetoric? What about the numerous substantive mistakes that undercut the mission before it started? What about turning a blind eye to any intelligence or expert advice that undercut his case for war or the rosy scenario of liberation met by flowers? What about disbanding the existing armed forces and police, thus helping to create an army of insurgents? What about failing to secure the munitions that are now being used to kill our troops and untold Iraqi civilians?

Bush also expressed regret about Abu Ghraib but not for a moment did he admit any culpability in that matter, saying the guilty were given a fair trial and punished. It's as if his administration was not part of the chain of command, had not deliberately beforehand sought to legally protect themselves from the fallout of the controversial interrogation methods they pushed, and bore no responsibility for the failure to ensure their directive for breaking prisoners did not get out of hand.

Bush regrets language he used that has been thrown back in his face, but can't bring himself to admit substantive mistakes that have had far worse consequences than the political discomfort he's suffered.

2. As Joe S. just said--it was focus on the 'language" this 'certain parts of
the world misinterpretated"---not anything of substance.

9. Pandering
Pure and simple.

I'm sure that Laura told him that "bring 'em on" and "wanted, dead or alive" were two lines that did not endear him to Americans, or the world. I suppose this is a little better than saying he doesn't remember any mistakes.. but not by much..

The kind of tough talk that sent the wrong signal to people," Bush said. "I learned some lessons about expressing myself in maybe a little more sophisticated manner."
