Anybody See This From Cato Institute on Bush: Power Serge
Edited on Fri May-26-06 05:46 PM by proud patriot
this conservative think tank doesn't sound too happy with the gop. (join the freakin club!)

http://cato.org/pubs/wtpapers/powersurge_healy_lynch.pdf

"At the very core of the First Amendment lies the right to criticize elected officeholders. President Bush has failed to protect that right.

In the arguments it has advanced for untrammeled executive power, the Bush administration comes perilously close to the Nixonian view.

The administration’s legal position can be summed up starkly: Whenwe’re at war, anything goes, and the president gets to decide when we’re at war.

President Bush has asserted the authority to exclude the judiciary from the warrant application
process by issuing his own arrest warrants.

1. W's big government to enforce social conservatives views
is at work. He and Karl Rove soliticed the extremists support, and the extremists want a payback.

Another word for social conservative views, is theocracy. W signed on to their agenda. They "own" him.

7. I thought they were libertarian? That is not the same as Republican
Course Bush is not a real Republican or what we thought of as one. That they are now selling off the Smithsonian in a back alley deal is almost more than I can take,. I should never have turned on TV this morning.

4. God, it takes them forever.
8 years of anti- free market no-bid contracts and corporate/big government oligarchy, a vast STASI like intelligence apparatus spying on americans, perpetual war and NOW libertarians are starting to criticize?

11. I don't feel sorry for them
They created this monster and have elevated and protected it. What else do they expect? Promoting contempt for government creates lawless governments and leaders who aren't afraid to trample on the rights of others.

Maybe now they realize the ideas they promote are bankrupt.

:nopity:

14. Bingo. He's THEIR baby. Be careful what you ask for, Cato & Co.
They have indeed created a Frankenstein monster. And frankly, having done so, they are the ones who should fix this. They probably won't, because ownership of a mistake of this magnitude won't be willingly claimed - by this bunch, anyway (since they never accept responsibility for fucking anything up). I saw a blinking of a Pox "news" show with that neil balloon-head person, and they were blaming Enron on Clinton.
