National Journal Poll (2008 poll)
It's a bunch of wild speculation, really, but you can read about various possible candidates and vote (look on the left side of the page):

1. Wild speculation .... but with some temper ......
First, a side note. I guess we've all already known it, but it hit me in reading this thing ..... of the top ten (5D + 5R) three are from Arkansas. I have no idea what that means, but its kinda curious. Also, four of the Dems are Southerners, while only three of the Repubs are.

The temper ..... Curious not only for who is on the list (the list being only the top five for each party) and who is not.

Doctor Fristian. I've always thought he was dead. Seems the Journal agrees. And its not just his insanity in the case of the Schindler's daughter. He's just not a good politian and havs been little more than a tool as Senate leader. Walking wounded at best.

I found it interesting that Kerry wasn't in the top tier. But then, that would just be conventional wisdom. I agree with their assessment. I also think 04 is too fresh in the minds of too many.

Al Gore. Could they have said it any better in their 'wild card' assessment: "The inconvenient truth for many D.C. Democrats is that Al Gore might be the best candidate the party could offer up in 2008." He sure has been busting into the newz shows of late. His popular buzz is close to that of Mrs. Clinton. The only 'wild' card is the one Al himself holds. And he's holding it pretty close to his 100% natural wool vest.

I find nothing unusual in the Repub top five.

The Dem top five, however, has some interesting names.

I would have replaced Edwards with either Richardson or Kerry. Nothing against Edwards, per se, but the other two, and Kerry in particular, seem stronger possibilities. Richardson has the whole Hispanic thing going for him, and he is, as they say, very articulate on damned near anythng ..... but .....

This is the first mainstream horeserace handicap sheet I've seen with Clark in the top tier. He pretty much polls in single digits everywhere else. It seems to me that while many others are out raising bucks and calling in chits, Clark's been working the grass roots and concentrating on 'small town' stuff like backing congressional candidates, pretty much in the national shadows.

Why aren't mark Warner and Evan Bayh listed as either Evan Warner or Mark Bayh? I'm just sayin' ........

So, yeah, as you say, this one is still wild specualtion, but it seems less wild than some other stuff I've seen.

2. Apparently they plan on doing this each month, so I suspect
there will be some shifts. It'll be interesting to take another look when we know who is running.

7. Who's the third from Arkansas?
Clark and Huckabee and who?

Hillary's not really "from" Arkansas, afterall. She lived there with Bill, but I would consider her more "from" New York at this point.

8. I included Mrs. Clinton, but what you say is true
She is a New Yorker via Arkansas, DC (twice) and her hometown of Chicago.

3. Interesting...
if you look at the people's choice, we want Al Gore! That was heartening, even if it is premature and probably a no-go.

6. Thanks. Al Gore would be a great Prez, but my 1st choice would be Clark.
I would be one happy liberal with these two.
I'll keep my fingers crossed.

4. I was surprised to see Huckabee in the top tier of repukes
Despite saying some good things about health (the man lost 100 pounds and has really touted health/wellness/fitness lately), he's also a fundamentalist preacher. I don't trust him because of that, and want others to be aware of this, as apparently it is being soft-pedaled at this time.

5. Just run pictures of that covenant marriage thing he did
I agree with you. That aspect of the guy **has** to be made widely known.

9. That and the "cell phone call from God" he "took" at the
Republican governors' convention a couple of years back.
