Pittsburgh paper gets "undeliverable mail" from letter sent to Santorum
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06146/693291-192.stm

Editorial: Nobody home / Santorum tries to cover his tracks on residency
Friday, May 26, 2006

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Before every election, the Post-Gazette routinely sends letters to the candidates seeking material for the Voters Guide. Back in March, as part of that process for the primary, the newspaper sent a letter to Rick Santorum at his home address, at least the one that he claims. Back from Penn Hills came the letter with a sticker from the U.S. Postal Service checked as "Not Deliverable As Addressed -- Unable To Forward."

That is all you need to know about the nasty dispute between the Republican Sen. Santorum and his Democratic opponent, Bob Casey Jr., in the November election. The whole thing is rooted in one inconvenient fact for Sen. Santorum: He doesn't live here anymore.

This is not to say that he doesn't visit Penn Hills from time to time. But while he may meet the legal requirements for residency, his home is in Virginia with his wife and children. This is well-known and it has been for quite a while. Indeed, it was at the heart of the objection by some Penn Hills residents to the local school district paying for the senator's children to be enrolled in a cyber charter school. The theory was that -- let us emphasize it again because it is central to the current problem -- he doesn't live here anymore.

16. And there is nothing wrong with that
I mean, it's not like Barbara Boxer or Daniel Akaka can go home every to California or Hawaii. It's just not feasible (BTW, my senators come home every night but I'm in Delaware).

But jeez, give some sort of semblence that you actually live in the state that you represent other than an empty home that is way too small for your entire family to fit into.

I know that Sen Pat Roberts and several other congressmen (no women) rent a townhome together that is owned by some religious organization. I'm sure on weekends and long breaks they travel back home to be with your family.

The HYPOCRISY of this all is that the main campaign issue that Rick Santorum used when first running for a congressional seat was that his democratic opponent was residing outside of Pennsylvania. Tricky Rick has now become the hypocrisy that he created.

If being that close to your family is so important (and no one is questioning that), then perhaps being a US Senator from Pennsylvania is not a job career for you. Why not step aside and allow the republican party to find a candidate who is willing to make the sacrifices

19. Of course it's fraudulent
Check the history of the PA house - if I recall some of the details, it's far too small for his family, plus, it was transferred to him after he was elected (I believe) by a member of his family.

Total sham.

Jesus ... This congress has had the least amount of time in session in something like 50 years ... They just are NOT in session that much ...

Less than half the year .. AND, they usually don't work Fridays even when they are in session ...

AND, well over 50% of PA is less than 4 four hours from DC ...

Get townhouse, split it with some other people ... Drive down Monday mornings ... Spend Monday through Wednesday night at the townhome ... Drive back Thursday night unless it runs late ...

He is a dispicable, worthless freak ...

27. Randall Terry... Yeah, that's his name. When I learned that he had
purchased a HUGE home on the ocean in Ponte Vedra Beach, I knew the upper crust neighborhood had gone to the rats.

Then I heard that he is running for the House of Representatives. (Please, God, No! Don't let him get in by foul means or fair).

Yesterday, I got a campaign message in the mail from him. It had a reply card on it asking for volunteers.

I got out a gold leaf pen and wrote on the reply card, "Maybe if you were running for sewer cleaner... But my husband vetoed me mailing it. :(

7. He's not the only one to shake the dust of his "home state"
of his shoes when he crossed the Beltway and it's not unique to the pubbies.

I remember a tempest in a teapot when it turned out Poppy Bush's Texas "residence" was a vacant apartment.

The reason we have such a rotten Congress is that they spend all their time in DC. It's their true home. They are disconnected with the folks at "home" because they never see them, never bother to stay around for more than a few days at a time and usually only during campaigns. It's the reason they all skedaddle over to K Street and lobbying jobs as soon as they leave office. Their connection to the state that sent them to office is in name only.

It's why we have to vote incumbents out. There are damned few worth saving.

18. For now on everyone has to refer to Santorum as RICKY
From the article:

In furtherance of that objection, two local Democrats, Ed and Erin Vecchio, tried to revive the residency issue on primary election day, which was covered by a subsequent KDKA-TV report. A radio ad for Sen. Santorum flagrantly distorts that report, suggesting that "operatives" for the Casey campaign had trespassed on the Santorum property. (It also sneeringly calls Mr. Casey "Bobby" -- as if the Democrat wore short pants.)

++++++++++++++++++

I always find it offense when people use nicknames that are not preferred by that person. People do that to me because my name has an "E" on the end of it and they think it's ok to pronounce the "E" (it's silent). So for Santorum to refer to Casey as "BOBBY" is just being rude and offensive - trying to downgrade Casey by using a childish version of his name.

So for now on it's RICKY Santorum!!!

Swann snub
Candidate cancels Williamsport visit to tour with Ridge
Thursday, May 25, 2006
BY SHARON SMITH AND JOHN BEAUGE
Of The Patriot-News
Lynn Swann, the Republican candidate for governor, might benefit more financially by appearing on the campaign trail with former Gov. Tom Ridge, but it might cost him much-needed support in the central part of the state.

Swann, who had a long-standing commitment to speak at the West Branch Manufacturers Association annual dinner next Tuesday, canceled last week after receiving an offer to appear with Ridge elsewhere on the same day.

The Williamsport group said it feels slighted and is withholding the $15,000 it raised on Swann's behalf. Checks are being returned to donors.

I could be wrong but isn't WIlliamsport part of PA-10? If this pisses off republican voters then perhaps it'll rub off on Don Sherwood too.

.. (on "page -3-") the supposed "Use of the Penn Hills residence as the Santorum's postal address to which mail is sent and received" as evidence Penn Hills is Ricky's home; his lawyers seem to be making false statements to the County.
