FIRST HAYDEN NOW KAVANAUGH
I just heard that Kavanaugh who is a right wing fundamentalist was approved 67-36 for the D.C. court of appeals. That's the second highest court in the land folks!

Why, with * poll numbers at 30% are we not fighting this??????

4. powerless to stop him, but not powerless to educate the masses
about what's being done to the judiciary branch

their failure to do this is APPALLING

the right wing takes EVERY opportunity to LIE about dems wanting to pack the courts with idealogues... and now here THEY are doing it, and what do our leaders do?

6. And that's on both sides of the aisle.
"they only care about their corporate contributors"

As WinterBybee said in his excellent review of Chomsky's Failed States

"There is a growing yet little-noticed gulf between the policies favored by most Americans and those championed by both the Bush administration and leading Democrats like Hillary Clinton."

3. I know....
and it's REALLY pissing me off!

I seriously think that Democrats with "balls" belong on the Endangered Species List at this point... I am very disappointed in my Party. VERY VERY VERY disappointed.

7. I briefly caught (Cspan) Schumer's reason behind "not fighting this"
Edited on Fri May-26-06 10:33 AM by kenny blankenship
(meaning the Mullah-Judge) because R's control Senate and almost always close ranks in backing Bush's appointments, hence there's little short of filibuster that the Democrats could do to stop them. Bush may be a ~30% lame-duck but his party still runs Congress. And of course a filibuster leads to the nukyulur option, and resultant disunity and dissension within the Dems.
Once the Dems control the Senate, they might be able to bring the CIA Director back in front of them to bitch him out about what he did as NSA Director. Maybe they will maybe they won't. Anyway, WHOMEVER Bush nominates to the post is going to be bad and probably crooked, so don't expect "fighting it" to get you anything in the next 3 years. (Unless we retake the Senate) Goss was a political crony and a crook, Hayden is a Constitution-Shredder and wedded to Bush by his complicity in Bush's crimes (that's why he's getting kicked upstairs to a more prestigious post: to keep him from talking about crimes at NSA).
Nothing can improve until A) we get the Senate back, and B) Bush is gone.

That's probably how Senate Dems who're not "fighting it" view this situation. They can't win, but they can get attacked for fighting, and re-energize the R base by kicking against the pricks.
I don't know if they're right, but I have long since stopped waiting and hoping to see them fight back the way I would want.

13. So why bother to have Dems if they're just gonna be Puggies?
Feingold & a few others have been making the Good Fight for years. Most of the others nave been rolling over into doggie-surrender postures to get their tummies rubbed.

11. It's only going to get worse as November elections get nearer
The more the Repugs know they are going to get their asses handed to them , the more they are going to fast track as much theocratic and militaristic evil as possible.

That is...unless they can stop the elections due to "protecting America" with martial law. Hold on to your hat...and call your reps!

12. Also Kempthorne (only 8 Senators represented me.)
According to MSNBC:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12988613/from/RS.2/

The confirmation was by voice vote after the Senate successfully invoked cloture on the nomination, limiting debate.

So the cloture vote was it:

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=2&vote=00161

Vote Counts: YEAs 85
NAYs 8
Not Voting 7

........

NAYs ---8

Biden (D-DE)
Clinton (D-NY)
Dayton (D-MN)
Harkin (D-IA)
Kerry (D-MA)
Mikulski (D-MD)
Nelson (D-FL)
Schumer (D-NY)

(who's missing from the Nays?)

Dirk Kempthorne Nomination Raises Serious Concerns

Washington, DC: The nomination of Governor Dirk Kempthorne for Interior Secretary raises serious concerns about the Bush administration's already deplorable stand on protection of public land. This nomination represents a continuation of the same anti-environmental polices that we have seen for the last five years.

"President Bush nominated someone who has consistently opposed protecting public health and public lands," said Carl Pope, Executive Director of the Sierra Club. "American families deserve an Interior Secretary who actually values our natural heritage. America deserves someone who will promote safe energy policies that protect sensitive lands and wildlife habitat, instead of giving over our public lands to developers and the oil and gas companies."

Governor Kempthorne has a history of:

* Supporting drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

* Opposing the protection of 60 million acres of wild forests

* Working to weaken the Endangered Species Act and Safe Drinking Water Act

As Senator and Governor, Kempthorne has proved hostile to a variety of environmental issues. Kempthorne earned a one percent rating from the League of Conservation Voters. Notably, as Senator Kempthorne co-sponsored a bill to take polluters off the hook for millions of tons of lead, zinc and other toxic metals into the Coeur D'Alene River Basin-instead leaving taxpayers with the clean-up bill.

From suggesting the sale of public lands to the highest bidder to privatizing their parks, forests, monuments, the Bush Administration has demonstrated a pattern of siding with corporate interests over the protection of America's natural heritage. Given the administration's and Kempthorne's own track record on the environment, unfortunately we have little hope that as Interior Secretary he would provide the leadership necessary to protect our national parks, wildlife and other special places.
