AP: Reagan's Navy Secretary Takes on Senate (James Webb)
Reagan's Navy Secretary Takes on Senate

Sunday May 28, 2006 5:16 PM

By BOB LEWIS

Associated Press Writer

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - Thirty-seven summers ago, in the swelter of An Hua Basin,
Marine Lt. James H. Webb saw more bloodshed and death than most people see
in a lifetime.

Since his decorated tenure in Vietnam, Webb has added hitches as President Reagan's
Navy secretary, an Emmy-winning journalist and author of best-selling, military-
suspense novels to his made-for-the-movies biography.

Why, then, suddenly run this year as a Democrat to unseat Sen. George Allen, a Republican
former governor whom Webb endorsed just six years ago?

"When I look at where this administration has taken its own party, I cannot help but think
about the pendulum of history," Webb said. "The pendulum has swung, I think, as far as it
can swing given the principles this party had once espoused."

1. It would be serious improvement to have Webb replacing Allen. nt

2. So the Swifboaters for "Truth" are supporting Allen against Webb
Edited on Sun May-28-06 12:08 PM by IndianaGreen
Allen is the chicken hawk who is better known as the son of legendary coach George Allen, who won the NFL championship as the Chicago Bears's defensive coordinator, and then went off to head coach some insignificant team in the Beltway whose name I can't recall, the Pimpleskins I think.

Allen has no military service, but he's prepared to take on Webb's record if necessary. A top Allen adviser, Christopher J. LaCivita, was the mastermind behind Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, a group of Vietnam veterans who made unsubstantiated allegations challenging Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's record of wartime heroism.

4. Jim Webb is a fighter and will not let them cast lies about his service.
Webb sure could use your support- donate your time more than your money-
Make phone calls from your state....just contact the campaign.
I did the same for Wes Clark- who BTW was one of the first people to endorse Jim Webb.

5. Ummm
and who are you pertaining to in your topic? Low very low, and if this is what is expected from Webb campaigners, I don't want any part of it.

6. Swift boaters for truth was what I replied to. What are you referring to?
You are in favor of what the "swift-boaters" did to Kerry?

And I resent your snide remark.

7. Reread it
Jim Webb is a fighter and will not let them cast lies about his service.

So who did let them cast lies about their service? I am not snide but that is how I read it. Sorry if I hurt your feelings, but how I read it is how I read it. If he wins, it won't be like the presidential race and cannot be compared to a Senate race.

You are very snide in your swiftboater remark, and I do resent that. I worked for Kerry during the primaries and after here in Virginia and also for his main campaign , so please don't even try that just because you don't agree with me.

10. I noticed that. I guess that Webb will understand that these guys
are scums, contrarely to what he wrote before the 04 election.

11. Webb can make this race competitive
With a large number of military folks here in Virginia, Webb has a shot. So vote for Webb if you live in Virginia. He needs to get through the primary against Miller.
