Global warming protesters demand that Max Mayfield step down
Global warming protesters plan to hold a vigil outside the Washington D.C. offices of NOAA, (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Assn), ans will demand that the director of the National Hurricane Center, Mr. Mayfield, and the head of NOAA resign because they don't believe in global warming. The protest will start at 11:00 AM today, and last until midnight June 1st, the official start of hurricane season. Both Mayfield and the head of NOAA have said that we have had more hurricanes not because of global warming but instead it's a natural cycle that these storms go though. "We are in a very busy and active period for hurricanes, which could last 10-20 more years", said Mayfield earlier in the month.

1. I adore Max Mayfield
I think the protesters have picked the wrong target. He was the one who called * before Katrina and made records that proved it and warned him that it would be bad.

2. Mayfield is a very calm and reasoned voice last year
Getting rid of him would be a huge mistake.

3. I don't think their protest will have much impact -
- as Max Mayfield seems to be highly thought of. He was just wonderful last year and his opinion certainly has merit. Wrong target, as someone said.

5. So... are the protesters saying that Mayfield won't take a stance?
About a week ago, Ed Schultz had CNN Meterologist Rob Marciano on as a guest ( http://www.cnn.com/CNN/anchors_reporters/marciano.rob.html )

Ed asked him why CNN keeps reporting that "we're in a 20 year cycle" and if that meant that they didn't believe what scientists are reporting on global warming?

Marciano started to sound nervous in the interview.. He kept saying that it's CNN's policy not to take sides on the debate; that some scientists say that the threat is so real that we won't even recognize earth in 50 years.. and that others say "we're just in a cycle we have to wait out"..

Ed said "But you HAVE to have your own opinion Rob.. so what is it!?!"

His response was "I saw the film that Al Gore has out and I have to tell you Ed, it scared the hell out of me and I just keep telling myself that I don't want to believe that's happening. But as a CNN Meterologist, I have to listen to both sides and I have to report both sides.. I can't take sides on the issue."

It sounded to me like he couldn't stand talking about the "20 year cycle", but that if he wants his job.. he had no choice. Marciano was sweating bullets because Big Ed was trying to get him to explain how on earth he could not believe something that is actually happening before our eyes.

I haven't read a lot about the Max Mayfield protest and I don't know what his feelings on global warming are.. I agree, he's on-the-ball when it comes to doing his job.

I'd rather Mayfield provide both sides of the issue (like the guy on CNN) than to deny that what we're experiencing is a result of global warming.. (if that's the case?)

But what I'd RATHER have.. is for all of them to tell us what they REALLY and TRULY believe.

6. "Don't believe in global warning" Ahhh, excuse me...
the climate is not an issue of faith.

There is evidence. It is either happening or not. What anyone "believes" is beside the point. This is about facts and evidence, not faith or belief. Belief belongs in church, not out there on the levees.

Get a clue, morans.

7. how big an issue is global warming in America
being from the UK it is THE issue of the day. Sustainable development, eco-footprint, sustainability of communities, food manufacturing, localism etc.

These are things we are debating daily now over here. i get the impression that is not the case in America. If so, Shit i'm scared, as America produces 1/4 of globes CO2, and if that is the case what is being done about getting the issue on the agenda by the left, democrats, DU, Liberals whoever.?

How would that affect the way he does his job? He clearly knows what he is doing and does very good work.
