Chuck Asay cartoon
Did anyone see the latest Chuck Asay cartoon? It's idiotic.

Now, I have respect for Asay, because when I E-mailed him about a few of his cartoons, he didn't respond with a bunch of "Democrats are traitors" stuff; he was polite. But yesterday's cartoon was pretty dumb.

It featured Al Gore preaching about global warming like one of those "prophets" who think that the world is going to end. Some kid watches him for a while, until Gore says, "we have to act before it's too late!" The kid asks him, "how much will it cost to change the climate". Gore doesn't answer but simply continues to preach. The kid says "that must be one of those inconvenient truths".

Since WHEN was society more concerned about the cost of protecting and saving the environment than actually saving it? It's like: "Oh, we'd like to save the environment for generations to come, but gee....it costs so damn much that we can't be arsed". What kind of a reaction is that?

Damn the costs! Let's protect the environment! We'll worry about the costs later.

Am I right?

7. Let me add a seventh frame.
Gore comes back and says, "About as much as Iraq costs and how many tax dollars were given away to the rich in the last six years."

11. Oh, brother, what lunacy.
Being "green" doesn't have to cost a fortune.

Right now, it does because the oil companies don't want us converting and make it difficult for us to do so; for example, my new car cost a little less than half what a hybrid costs (and is prettier - the hybrids just don't do anything for me. I've oft complained about their lack of aesthetic appeal, but I digress). However, as more and more people purchase these products, the price will come down, just like with any new technology. A new CD player in 1989 was about $300 or $400. By the time I bought one in 1991, I could get it for $100 to $150.

And, in the long run, recycling, burning less oil and coal and conserving SAVES us all money.

But, I guess this cartoonist doesn't know much about long-term economic.

2. Depends on which society you're talking about.
The current 'society in charge' is far more concerned with corporate profits, and the environment be damned if it gets in the way of that objective.

9. Asay is a right wing nut...
I have followed him for years in Colorado Springs. He's a supporter of the religious nuts and anything right-wing. He has little credibility from this corner.

But I have to say, though, that Asay was nice to me when I E-mailed him.

10. Way OT - but I've been reading a very good book about
John Lennon: The Faces of John Lennon.

It's put me in a Beatle mood something fierce. I think I listened to "Rubber Soul" four times last night. LOL.

Like I said, way off topic, but you have John's pic and Ringo's name, so I thought I'd mention it.

Carry on! :hi:
