"I want to know that after November the father of Marine Lance Corporal Jimmy Webb will be in the Senate thinking and leading on the best course for American troops," Kerry said. "I dare any Republican to question this man's courage, character, or moral authority on questions of war and peace."

...and thrown down the gauntlet.

They are gentlemen...but it is time for patriots and Federalists to say:

3. It's pretty amazing that Webb is trailing Allen by only 7%
at least in that WSJ poll. I wouldn't bet on Webb winning, but it is great that it is a possibility.

17. It should be noted that
The WSJ/Zogby poll is an outlier in comparison to about a half-dozen other polls released on the race. Every other poll I've seen has Webb trailing by 15-20 points.

WSJ/Zogby has a tendency to make races appear closer than they are.

6. I'm uneasy about George Allen's presidential prospects. A lot of
conservatives will be drawn to his candidacy if he runs.

It would be terrific to slow him down considerably in this Senate race. I'll let Virginia voters make their choice in the primary, but my long-term hope is that Allen's path to the GOP presidential nomination is slowed or stopped.

10. This is so nice to read!
I remember the Oped that Webb wrote where he condemned the swiftboaters and warned the Republicans that they were on their way to losing the support of the military. He was disgusted with their smears against honorable war heroes.
