Husband Bill an asset to Hillary Clinton's campaign
AFTER Sen. Hillary Clinton was nominated for her second term as a U.S. senator from New York on Wednesday, the state Democratic convention erupted into cheers when she thanked her husband for being "an inspiration, a mentor, a friend and a partner."

All of that is undoubtedly true, but it is far from the full story. The former first lady's relationship with her husband, ex-President Bill Clinton, is an endless soap opera featuring two very competitive, serious, intelligent stars. So why are her supporters nervous about his pending role as Hillary sidekick in her practically guaranteed 2008 presidential run? It's complicated, folks.

Those who say he should get out of the way because he's a drag on her popularity are wrong. A recent CNN poll by Opinion Research had Clinton doing better than President Bush in six job-approval categories. This represents a big development in public opinion. Many voters were always uncomfortable about the frenzied congressional Republican drive to impeach and convict Clinton for his illicit dalliance with Monica Lewinsky. Some have now forgotten about it, or forgiven him.

The bigger problem may be how to keep her husband from upstaging her when they are together - his outsized, gregarious personality tends to fill every room. He patiently sat in the audience when she was nominated, applauding with other party activists and keeping his mouth shut. But everyone knew he was there and clustered around him when the formalities were over. And that's the way it's going to be...

3. I'm not so sure wyldwolf
When Republicans see Hillary Clinton in a room, they see someone who they want to defeat. When they see both Bill and Hillary in the room, they see an ex-president who took the White House from them, and a probable candidate who wants to take it back. Yes, Bill is the 500lb gorilla in the room, but they know if Hillary becomes president, it's a 2 for 1 package, and that is something they won't tolerate
