If Democrats win big in 06, will Cheney 'retire' for health reason
Let's face it - Cheney makes Bush look like the most popular kid at school and that's saying a whole lot. Cheney has made it clear he has no desire to be president, hell we barely see him even as Vice President since he's squirrelled away in some undisclosed location doing the task of running the country and pulling the Bush-Strings. So when 2008 comes around - it's an open field for which party could win the presidency.

Which means if Republicans want to retain the white house and prevent a democratic takeover, could you see Cheney 'retiring' should the dems win big this november? Then the Bush Regime will place their preferred candidate in as VP, setting that person up for 2008

2. I think he'll resign after 2006 no matter who wins...
I talked about it all here:

http://blogs.southflorida.com/citylink_dansweeney/2006/04/i_reiterate_my_prediction_dick.html

But, basically, for the reasons you say -- because he does the administration no good, and they'd like to set up a presidential candidate that wil continue their agenda

3. i doubt it
Who is the "preferred" candidate for bushco? There are a lot of repubs who want to run for President...McCain, Hagel, Allen, Frist, just to name a few. If Cheney stepped down, each of these folks will have their own supporters and the repubs will have a difficult time agreeing on a replacement vp. Plus, if the war is going badly, being vp isn't a great stepping stone to the presidency at that point. So I don't really see it as having any great strategic benefit for the repubs.

4. Cheney should retire for health reasons...
...the health of the country that is!

Cheney is a political illness that must be eradicated and contained--much like bird flu!

Quick, Mr pResident---call in the National Guard and quarantine Dick Cheney for the rest of
his life!

5. So will a lot of their fellow liars and kleptos

At the running rate of expenditure, decline, and collapse of their policies, support, and advantages, which they can't seem to hold up, a year from now Bush himself is going to be in resignation territory.

With collapse at the federal level, the breakdown is going to go to the state, local, and grassroots organization levels fairly quickly. The second half of 2006 is looking to be their April 1865. A short slew of battles in which their Rebellion is given its mortal blows.

I don't see the GOP being united or viable enough to win in 2008. There's no way out of the moral and political hole they're in.

7. Not a chance ...
This man will NOT walk away ... And, he has ZERO concern for the "party" ... He has no vision outside of his pure greed, and craven need for power ... The only question is IF he will allow for elections, and IF he will allow he and Bushco to end their terms ...
