Please edit my LTTE!
Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 01:29 PM by acmejack
I wrote this LTTE in response to this Editorial. I would appreciate any constructive input from you good people. Thanx for the help.

It was with great interest I read your advice to the Texas Democratic Party. I accept your claims that this council was offered because "Democrats are so far from political relevancy, they are almost a joke." While we Democrats appreciate your input and concern, please allow me to remind readers that this is the same Editorial Staff which endorsed George W. Bush.

Your Coulteresque attack style of editorializing serves to continue to demonstrate the bias of the Editorial Board of the Statesman and further illustrate why the print media continues to descend into irrelevancy. Perhaps if you actually spoke to a Texas Democrat, you would shed the illusion that we are "wandering around dazed, confused and unfocused", then again perhaps it is the work of the Lord, whom we are told is the exclusive province of the Right and is most certainly a Republican. The Texas Republican Chairperson Tina Benkiser publicly proclaims of God, "He is the chairman of this party,". Perhaps you would have us simply give up participating in elections if that is the case. With unverifiable electronic voting conducted on easily hackable proprietary machines running secret code, maybe we already have.

2. Here's my rewrite:

I read with great interest your advice to the Texas Democratic Party. I accept your claim that you offered this counsel because "Democrats are so far from political relevancy, they are almost a joke." While we Democrats appreciate your input and concern, please allow me to remind your readers that this same editorial staff endorsed George W. Bush.

On edit: In particular, you should definitely change "council" to "counsel" and "which" to "that." Feel free to use the rest of it or not, though -- I just tightened it up a little bit and added that the voting machines are generally owned by GOP supporters.

3. A small suggestion

Bush.

I read with great interest your advice to the Texas Democratic Party, specifically your claim that "Democrats are so far from political relevancy, they are almost a joke." While we Democrats appreciate your suggestions, please allow me to remind your readers that this same Editorial Staff endorsed George W. Bush.

Your Coulteresque attack style of editorializing serves to continue to demonstrate the bias of the Editorial Board of the Statesman and further illustrate why the print media continues to descend into irrelevancy.

Your Coulter-esque style of verbal attack proves the bias of The Statesman's Editorial board and demonstrates print media's growing insignificance.

If you were to speak with a Texas Democrat, you might shed the illusion that we are "wandering around dazed, confused, and unfocused." Then again, perhaps you are simply performing the work of the Lord. Tina Benkiser, Chairperson of the Texas Republicans, publicly proclaims that God "is the chairman of this party." If that's the case, should Democrats simply choose to forgo elections altogether?

With unverifiable electronic voting, conducted on vulnerable machines owned by GOP-friendly corporations and running on secret, proprietary code, perhaps this choice has been made for us already.

===================

Of course, you are free to use or discard my suggestions as you wish! Good luck in any case!

4. LTTE
Sounds good to me. But, you can't teach an old dog new tricks. At least, until you feed him.
