Why did they kill, not capture, Zarqawi?
no need for way-out-there conspiracy theories ... and, just to be clear, with the lying bush administration in power, whether Zarqawi was killed at all can never really be known ... all we know is what they tell us ... not much credibility there, is there?

so, the US supposedly knew, or strongly believed they knew, exactly where Zarqawi was ... the "safe house" he was in was just a little north of the US stronghold in Baghdad ... imagine sitting in the strategy session about what to do about him ...

the choices? 1. follow him to uncover his entire network 2. capture him 3. kill him ... what would you have done?

option 1 was probably a little too risky although they apparently, if the stories are true, had been tracking his "spiritual guide" for several months ... if you can track a guide so accurately, why couldn't we track Zarqawi once we knew where he was ... but, still, there's some risk he could disappear again ...

option 2, with the best trained Special Op forces in the world, would have yielded an incredibly valuable information asset if the stories were to be believed ... would the capture have been difficult? probably not ... the combat situation is not like a traditional war where we would have to use massive force to move into enemy territory ... there is NO organized enemy that "holds territory" ... pack up the guys in a few humvees, take a drive, surround the house, and make your move ...

and this option could have yielded not just a wealth of intelligence but also a massive propaganda and political value to bush ... seems kind of like a no brainer unless ...

there was a reason to choose option 3 ... but why drop two 500 ton bombs on the guy? why was Zarqawi worth more dead than alive? could it be that what he would have said, say in a trial, might have disclosed some unpleasant truths for those who opted to kill him?

and, in conjunction with that speculation, was it just coincidence that bin Laden "miraculously escaped" from Special Op forces in Tora Bora ... coincidence? perhaps, or perhaps not ... one thing's for sure: neither Zarqawi nor bin Laden has had a day in court where their words, their exact words, could be heard for the world to judge the truth ... and killing Zarqawi covered up the truth ... the question is: why was it done?

2. That was my thought also
why the hell did they blow him up.If you capture him he may give up all sorts of information on the insurgency.Ireally don't understand why and no one seems prepared to ask the question. We can't be the only ones wondering.I would think it would be no problem for the special forces or even the CIA for that matter.

3. Finality. The guy was barely literate.
Witness the box-office bomb that Hussein's trial has become. He is no longer the Great Menace to the World as We Know It, but just a disheveled old guy in the dock.

Zarqawi would be even worse.

I doubt he would have shed any real light on anything.

5. Oh, and take the chance of Zarqawi talking? I don't think the............
.....US Military and especially Bush and his minions wants to take that chance. Plus, what better way to raise the WH Idiot's numbers than to very conveniently produce the # 2 most wanted figure in the world.:sarcasm: You know, the whole Bush doing his job thing?:sarcasm: What do you want to bet Rummy knows exactly where Bin Laden is and could talk in and shake his hand right now?? Look for him to be taken out sometime between now and 08 too.

7. Rove's/Rummy's orders... IMHO.....
Go read again the story, Special Forces were around the house. They "called" in a bombing run with 500lb bombs and OH by the WAY just happen to have it on video tape for Fox/Cnn and friend...

A woman and child was killed by the bombing...
