Is There Any End To the Iraq War In Sight?

I have pretty much resigned myself to the reality that our troops will remain in Iraq dying in a "war" of choice until even after Bush has exited the White House.

No president wants to be known as the president who lost the war. Unless the pain inflicted on the presidency by an angry population outweighs the pain inflicted by Iraqi guerrillas, the president will probably continue to state that he or she is determined to "win" against the guerrillas through sheer force of arms and sheer determination.

I'll tell you what, though. A person who is defending his home, family, and land is far more determined to fight you than a person who has to travel half way around the world to fight in a foreign land with a foreign culture with nothing to gain from it except perhaps to come home in one piece. If it's a test of wills, the Iraqis already have an advantage.

The lethal rhetoric stemming from the whole "stay the course" crowd hints that they have no intention or desire to pull us out anytime soon.

I never thought another Vietnam could happen, but it looks like it did.
