What will the environmentalists and DUers say about this?

"He's looking for OIL!!! Baah, we see the true plan! Can't fool us Bushy!!!" Am I close?

Ummm, those people cannot be made happy. He could have announced a 1 trillion program to turn CA cities back into a pristine nature preserve and they'd say it's not enough.

I was lurking and the DUers are shocked at this - they approve of it surprisingly but a few say that's because he found out there is no oil there yada yada yada.

Maybe one or two DUers will quit drinking the kool-aid.

3. Second monument in 5 years
I'm ecstatic that this area is going to be preserved, but I'm sure as hell not going to pretend Bush gives a shit about the environment because he made an easy environmental act to try to move his poll numbers out of the toilet.

8. to begin a new life ... UNDER THE SEA!
Homer: Marge? Kids? Everything's going to be just fine. Now go upstairs, and pack your bags...we're going to start a new life...under the sea.

Homer: {sings}
Under the sea, under the sea,
There'll be no accusations, just friendly crustaceans
Under the sea!

Marge: Homer, that's your solution to everything: to move under the sea. It's not going to happen!

Homer: Not with that attitude!

7. Takes the heat of the Bush/Enviro Cause heat on Bush is a problem.. heat
on the Arctic.. not so much. :sarcasm: Cause some say there will be summer navigation there within 10 years. And dam is someone like Bush isn't going to insist of turning the north into Panama. And taking ownership of all that is there (international waterway and all). Connected to a superhighway.. that leads straight to Alberta.

I see Rove, Cheney & Rumsfield have gotten out that map of North America during math class.. gotten out the crayons.. and redrawn things.

10. Why do Repukes insist the environment is a partisan policy battlefield?
There shouldn't be an "Us vs Them" battle over environmental policy.

Global Warming will kill Repukes and Americans alike.

And all those starving African children that Repukes laugh at today? Well, within fifty years, those refugee camps and starving children with their bloated bellies covered in flies will be in America. And we'll be able to show their grandchildren pictures of Grandma and Grandpa from 2006 drinking slushies during "Global Warming" parties to mock the coming catastrophe and descried the majority of scientists sounding the warning.

And the Repukes call Al Gore a Nazi for trying to save us from ourselves?

We really shouldn't be surprised that Repukes are willing to poison themselves and drive the country they supposedly love into environmental catastrophe. These are the same people who say that pornography is bad, yet the majority of porn-industry money is given to Repukes.

Repukes don't love America any more than sheep love their pastures. Repukes lead mean-spirited unexamined lives, carelessly grazing without a second thought. If they loved America, they would protect the environment, they would protect The Constitution, and they would care about their fellow human beings.

Republicans are just Nazis too lazy to march!

11. Give that Shrub a Nobel prize! Wow what an environmentalist!!
Wow...he made a sanctuary! DAMN! No president has ever done such a thing before! Wow! This completely makes up for the corporate pandering on environmental regulation relaxation, attempts to log and wildcat drill all over national parks, strip the endangered species list for poachers, and fudging reports to say there is no global warming! Damn where is his halo? When will the Pope grant him Sainthood? I guess our cause is over. We might as well pack up and become freepers! :sarcasm:

this is the first and only good thing I can remember the Chimp ever doing. It certainly doesn't make up for all the horrors that have been visited on us over the last 6 years.

15. This refuge was a "no brainer" and since reports
have surfaced recently about the Bushistas taking away coastal protections for Florida offshore oil drilling, and the bad news about the coal-mining damage to the environment from Bush's okay to lop off mountain tops and dump them in rivers and streams like in W. VA, I see this just as a political ploy. If he was sincere about environmental protection he would not go after ANWR. Bush is a slimy POS.
