Am I getting a whiff of desperation in the gop resolution?
To win elections, republicans have to get democrats on record that they don't want our kids to stay in the desert indefinitely? To energize their base (a minority of Americans) they have to continually pander for war and death?

They came to the podium and they huffed and they puffed and they stuck out those chickenhawk chests and told the world that by gawd our kids will stay in harms way indefinitely for no apparent reason. Strange campaign tactic I think, but then I'm not a fucking moron whom the gop is apparently targeting.

1. Loved Murtha asking when someone had served in combat after they'd
given their "expert" opinion about what needed to be done.

Calling a Chickenhawk a chickenhawk in the Congressional Record - priceless.

2. I think you nailed it, Boss
and I hope Dems use your slant on things to let their constituents know what the repukes are really up to. If a Dem is smart, they should hire you to write some speeches for them!

5. You are very kind
"Conservatives" in congress are so transparent. All politicians posture and pander but this bunch is a hoot. And it is so sad that a true gentleman and statesman like John Kerry would have to get into the muck and more created by the gop to win an election. Also, so sad that there is such incredible ignorance in our county; that the gop might succeed with their ideas takes someone to vote for them.

3. They are desperate, hypocritical chicken hawks.
Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 10:50 AM by CottonBear
They are stuck to (think of Tony Snow here) one big, bad tar baby of their own creation: the Iraq quagmire. Will we stay or will we go now? (to paraphrase the Clash...) We could leave with some dignity at this point but the 900 pound gorilla in the room are all of those permanent air bases and the world's biggest embassy. No GOP hypocrite will dare mention or discuss those facilities because, if they did, they would have to admit that their "plan" (such as it is) is to NEVER leave.

edit: sp.

7. Will it be a Christmas present?
Or do you think they will roll it out to see in the new year? "New for 2007-Induction!" One day soon after (if you are 18 to 25, lucky to be youthful, unfortunate perhaps, for the same reason) a registered letter for you arrives, you open it and read;

"Greetings from the President of the United States, George W. Bush. You are hereby directed to report..."

8. My nephew was in the ninth grade when the war started
His father (my wife's brother) is a republican and war supporter and was from the start. Now his son is a senior in high school. I think the gop is rolling the dice. Wait till after the 2006 elections and risk losing the majority. It would be a great announcement about the last week of October.

6. the republicans are trying to make....
....the 'cut and run' label stick to the Democrats.

But really, if you think about it, it could backfire on the Repubs! I mean a majority of the population now disagrees with the war so if Democrats are labeled as 'cut & run' then so is the majority of Americans!!!

9. 'Our kids' for sure. Never THEIR kids
America needs to dwell on that for a bit.

10. My warmongering brother in law
was real gungho for the war in late 2002 and into 2003. At the time his son was a ninth grader. In September he'll be a senior in high school. The war monger has cooled off a bit. Its a different issue now.
