What my dear old lifelong (R) friend said to the repub telemarketer
Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 12:33 PM by mahina
This is from my very beloved old friend who has voted r his entire life. He told me this yesterday.
tele-grubber: "Would you be willing to support candidates in your district or nationally, financially or volunteering?"(to that effect.)

my friend - "what do you have down there on my profile?"
tele-grubber- "Lifelong republican."
my friend- "Let me tell you something really clearly. I have voted only for republicans since I could vote. (He's coming on 70.) I want you to take me off your list. I'm not mad at you personally, but until those mealy mouthed lying shitweasels you have up there and all their friends are gone and gone for good, and we start taking care of the people of this country, I won't do one thing for this party. They make me ashamed to be a republican. You understand me?"

So anyway, that happened.

And for those of us who think all republicans are selfish, just know this friend of mine has expended absolutely amazing, inspiring and mindblowing energy and determination to do great community work. He mustered others to help and brought a poor school here up to standards and facilities that anyone I know would be happy to send their kids to, from a complete dump. He is a big heart and a big love. I always thought republicans were selfish people until I knew this man was one.

2. There are plenty of decent Republicans out there.
Not coincidentally, almost all of the ones I know hate Bush. And half of them always have.

3. Don't confuse real conservatives with the people who are currently
operating under the R banner. Those people are a lot of things, but conservative is not one of them.

5. As I Keep Pointing Out to My Wife
THOSE THUGS UP IN WASHINGTON ARE NOT REPUBLICANS. Republicans are people who believe in fiscal responsibility, individual liberties and personal initiative as the core of success.
The thugs who have hijacked the Grand Old Party believe in borrowing trillions of dollars from foreign sources to throw parties for their friends in the Military/Industrial Complex; peeking into your bedroom, reading your email, and tapping your phone; and achieving personal success through political cronies and insider trading.
Richard Nixon sold the Party down the river to the Reaganite thugs in 1972 to assure himself re-election - for reasons beyond understanding Republicans have continued since 1980 to follow this gaggle of crooks.

7. They're Republicans. This is what Republicans did under President Hoover

as well. The Republican leadership has *always* been this way and they have *always* been top-down, for the ultra-rich, pro-profiteering.

Tell your wife that they aren't true conservatives, they are neo-conservatives/neo-liberals.
