An Answer to "Cut and Run".....
Vernacular answer-"We are going to CUT the horse shit, and RUN the country in a responsible manner....

..."We will cut the empty "stay the course" rhetoric and run a program of scheduled troop withdrawals from Iraq".
..."We will cut out tax breaks for the rich and corporations and run the country in a fiscally responsible manner".
..."We will cut saber rattling and bullying of those countries we disagree with and run instead on a platform of real partnerships and diplomacy."
..."We will cut the "culture of corruption" and run out of Washington any politician of any party that fails to display ethics far higher than "I haven't been convicted, yet."
..."We will cut the use of easily hacked and unverifiable voting machines and run the first fully transparent election in over a decade."
..."We will cut ALL warantless spying on Americans and when necessary run investigations as directed by warrants from the FISA court."
..."and finally,we will cut out the lying to and deceiving of and pandering to the American people and run on the assumption that we are,all of us,patriots and adults,of good intent and compassionate nature, and that with these changes alone America WILL thrive."

Feel free to add your own...

This WILL shut them up.

7. I just say, so hey, you wanna STAY AND DIE instead???
What's a good NUMBER for ya? Ten thousand, twenty thousand, thirty? Whaddaya say, we take it all the way to 58K and helo off the roof of the embassy again? That was fun...no???

And like Barney Frank sez, if everything is so peachy in Iraq, then it's as good a time as any to get the hell out of there. After all, Monkey wouldn't lie to you, would he? He said everything's coming up roses...and the Iraqis are already asking for our withdrawal schedule, so let's get busy and give it to them!

8. Too long--Not quick enough TV & radio sound bite for the talking heads
Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 04:43 PM by LaPera
That's the problem with Dem's, we give long winded answers and people don't & won't remember...republicans use the extremely effective quick slogan....They prove over and over it works...Remember Kerry when asked about his health care during 2004 campaign? Instead of saying the truth, "Democrats want 100% universal health care for all Americans and Republicans don't". Kerry went on and on and on reciting his ten point health care plan...that very few wanted to hear and even less would remember...We're dealing with short attention span American idol type voters here through television (TV & radio where over 80% of Americans get their news)...Informed Dem's of course are going to take the Dem's position not matter what...

But the republicans know to get the majority of Americans, it has to be the snappy, quick sound bite, used for spin, campaigns, talking points and TV & radio shows...because it's proven so very effective.

As I threaded & posted on DU yesterday in the GD forum... I prefer to answer the republicans with -- Your accusation of "Cut & Run", makes more sense than your "Stay & Die" plan for our troops!

An excellent book about all of this is.....

17. OR paraphrase them...OR make up your own
"cut and run" statements. Just DON'T PRETEND that if you ignore it, it will go away.

THIS IS THE MAIN NEGATIVE SPIN "PHRASE" that the Republicans are planning to use to imply that Democrats are un-American.

IT IS NOT GOING TO GO AWAY....and if we ALLOW it to gain momentum it will be comparable to the Republicanns' successful "swiftboat" manipulation.

Just figure out a way to speak up to this Republican misinformation. Yes, we are paddling upstream... and the Republican-owed media will always accomodate Karl Roves' talking points..

18. Caller to the Ed Schultz show: "Stay and Die."
Has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

Same number of syllables for the short-attention-span, dumbed-down constituency. Those who can't think farther than two or three words along, at one time. Kinda like their brilliant "Rhodes scholar" "leader."

We DO have to dumb-down the message. Remember, these are people who worship at the feet of the god "I Don't Do Nuance." That's the only way we have to reach them. Speak their dumb-down language.

In the syllable count, I also like "Sitting Ducks." Three syllables there, too.

22. Cut 'n run
is just the latest in a long list of appeals to emotion, of empty rhetorical flourishes designed to justify the unjustifiable.

I know that DLC supporters aside that I am preaching to the choir. Yet by actually deigning to answer such Goebbelian rhetoric we are empowering the bastids.

23. Actually I think Kerry's "the GOP cut & ran from good intel, good advice
from the military on Iraq troop numbers, and cut and ran from expert information on occupation and civil stability from the State Department and like organizations" , not verbatim, was great.

The Bush WH.. has cut & run from any and every sort of expertise (perhaps seeing them all as fancy pants intellectuals) since they have implemented ANYTHING!

24. Reply to all....
Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 05:09 PM by catnhatnh
I see I made the greatest page...thank you,I am humbled by the great response.
The reason we MUST reply to "cut and run" is that it will be repeated by all republicans (ad nauseum in fact) plus most pundits-even those with liberal leanings will allow the framing to push them into asking "How do you answer the republican charges of "cut and run?" and the like. The msm will use this as "talk shampoo"-rinse,raise a lather, and repeat.so it will be out there and ignoring it or replying weakly WILL hurt us.So instead,WE set the frame. Each of our "cut and run" responses can be in the general-"Why don't the republicans cut the nonsense and run this campaign on a serious discussion of issues?" or war specific "We want to cut the flow of arterial bleeding of our troops and run this military exercise according to strategy and logistics-not just rhetoric." and then elucidate a clear and logical withdrawal plan.Or best a general "stop the nonsense" cut and run, followed by a change the war plan cut and run, followed by a few extra points....Each CUT must be a republican program or practice that is clearly perceived to have failed and each RUN must be a clear and optimistic prediction of how democrats can improve this.We cannot stop their "cut and run" strategy, but with this plan we can sure make them regret it...

On Edit: Start each statement with the verbal hook "The republicans are right,(Tim, Wolf, Larry, etc)! We Democrats ARE going to "Cut and Run".....and then jump on them....

29. Hey Larissa...
Thanks but in the current political atmosphere I doubt an old lefty alcoholic and past drug addict would draw heavy support....the difference between me and the republican party is that I have lucid, rational periods in between occasional disconnects from reality-they appearently arrived at irrational and decided to stay the course.Anyhow, I'm glad you liked the post.If you think it has merit you might recommend the technique to any democratic strategists you know.I seriously think it could work. Regards,Cat.
