Help Stop the Sneak Attack on Federal Programs
"Sunset Commission" Threatens Programs that Protect and Serve Us

The House and Senate could vote as early as next week to create a fast-track for eliminating or "realigning" government programs, and even entire agencies - based solely on the recommendations of an unelected, unaccountable commission.

Let your senators and representative know they should reject any proposal that would establish a "sunset commission."

Why is it so important to act?

The plan wastes scarce government resources and threatens long-standing services and protections.

Should we really even be considering abandoning the Clean Air Act? What about Head Start? By "we" I mean an unelected commission that makes its decisions behind closed doors. NO.

It would separate you even more from the process of deciding our government's priorities.

Should a commission made up of appointees have the power to force measures through Congress with limited debate and little or no input from concerned citizens? Should it operate in secret? NO and NO.

The commission creates a perfect place for cronyism.

Could this one committee possibly know enough about all the programs it would judge to do so fairly? NO.

So how will committee members make decisions? Probably based on what their boss, namely the president, wants. That means those programs on the president's hit list will be the first to go:
