I`m bordering on fury.
Sweet Jesus let me get this out of my system.

The Rubber Stamp Republicans held a "debate" on the Iraq War? That`s what the hell they called it? So some striped-suiter...so long as he vows he`s not a cut-and-runner...can stand up and challenge John Murtha`s courage? Some at ease weasel who`s never smelled war time blood can denegrate someone who has? What is this? The Chickenhawk Brigade? No bars, no wings, no medals, no nothing, but they can grab a microphone and lecture Murtha on combat? The closest most of these guys ever came to combat was in fighting for the front seat of the corporate-owned golf cart.

So they`re loyal supporters of Bush`s war policy? Big deal. That takes about as much sacrifice as deciding that you`ll continue to accept that monthly check from your rich uncle. You don`t need a Purple Heart for that. All you have to do is find someone who has one and use him in your photo op. It`s the next best thing. Like Little AWOL`s flight suit that Karl rented for him. Just mix in with the pilots and Wolf Blitzer will say you are one.

I`ve had about all I can take of this BS. I have friends who sacrificed life, limb and emotional stability in Vietnam. When I hear some safe and secure chickenhawk babbling on about "staying the course" I want to scream. Like he`s going to grab a gun and run right over to Iraq after he finishes with his air conditioned dinner reservations this evening. Like his son will be enlisting as soon as he finishes his tennis lessons.

These jokers ought to talk with my friend who was a "tunnel rat" in Vietnam. They should ask him how he felt crawling in the dark on his stomach, worried that every breath might be his last. They should ask him how he felt knowing that lily white politicians were making speeches about sacrifice and staying the course.

1. I just wished that Murtha had walked across the aisle and slapped
big-mouth Gohmert with a glove and challenged him to a dual at sunrise! Kerry should have done the same thing to AWOL during the debates.....then we'd all have seen Bush wet his pants on TV.

Hamilton/Burr was a really long time ago. Kerry could suggest fencing - he was on the Yale team.

Edited on Sat Jun-17-06 05:43 PM by Brigid
And Kerry should have helped him. It would have made for classic TV. That kind of thing happened in Congress during the run-up to the Civil War. Who says it can't happen again? Smart-mouth, pasty-faced, fat little toad! Who is he to lecture a genuine war veteran like Murtha? :grr:

And when they lose power, the troops will come home.

they don't have any experience involving war, they just resort to calling people names and impugning someone's "patriotism" if they don't applaud the wars they start.

12. when talking about the military/service yea someone who served............
.....earned the right to what they want when they want. Someone who didn't serve has no right to criticize the Military or anyone's military service in any way. So yes, there are some things that have to be earned.

Criticizing the Military as a whole is one thing:applause:, criticizing a particular service member's record, when the person:wtf: doing the criticizing has not served one day:banghead:, is another matter entirely.:banghead:

22. Thank you, I tend to get a little protective when it comes to...........
....people's military records. :patriot:Rep Murtha:patriot: as well as every generation of my entire family served in some branch of the military. And I have a REALLY short fuse:grr: when someone's military record gets slammed by some "I have other things to do" neocon. Yes, I even get protective of :patriot:John McCain's military record:patriot: even though everything he has stood for politically since then has been off the charts to the right.:puke:

Anyway, thank you for understanding and thank you for listening to my little  here. Now I feel better!! :hi:

5. It was billed as a debate on the Iraq War
But at the last minute, the Republicans changed it into a general non-binding resolution in support of the so-called War on Terror. No amendments to the resolution were allowed. In a Congress that's scheduled to meet for just 94 legislative days this year, one of the shortest in history, they spent two days on this non-binding resolution. Good thing there's nothing else to be addressed in the country, huh? You know, like millions of cargo containers coming in through our ports without so much as a dog sniff?

Louie Gohmert received his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University, where he was Class President and served as a Brigade Commander of the Corps of Cadets. He was also Class President while attending Baylor School of Law. He is a veteran having served his country as Captain in the U.S. Army as a result of an Army scholarship at Texas A&M.

He started college in 1975, no info on where he served.

feel the same way. Where does this Congress (except for the 6 who get it)get off saying they are speaking for the majority of Americans? The majority want the war to be over and for our troops to come home!

9. George McGovern comes to mind
**It doesn't require any particular bravery to stand on the floor of the Senate and urge our boys in Vietnam to fight harder, and if this war mushrooms into a major conflict and a hundred thousand young Americans are killed, it won't be U.S. Senators who die. It will be American soldiers who are too young to qualify for the Senate. ~George McGovern**

This whole 24-48 hour news day cycle has been one of the most hellishly surreal on so many fronts that I can think of for a long time.

From the Pentagon RNC Politboro talking points story, to the Bush twisted claims v Iraqi VP's own about their support for US troopwithdrawl, to the Feds' perverted suit of New Jersey over the NSA Telecom eavesdropping scndal, to Specter's patent denial on CNN of his proposal for NSA spy-scandal amnesty, to the Justices' new expansions of the no-knock search--
for appetizers...

And THIS. THIS. Insanity.

We are being governed by a cabal of Republican Madmen, all.

16. Here's the actual Murtha quote:
Murtha, a vocal opponent of the war in Iraq, said at a news conference Wednesday that sources within the military have told him that an internal investigation will show that "there was no firefight, there was no IED (improvised explosive device) that killed these innocent people. Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood."

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12838343/

Murtha has numerous, knowledgeable contacts within the military. It's highly unlkely he'd go on the record with this unless it was a certainty. Tell your sister the wingnut to drink a tall, warm glass of shut the fuck up.
