Republicans screwed up the one thing they are supposed to do well...
Foreign Policy. In modern times, the Republicans have diligently promoted themselves as strong on national defense but not very concerned with domestic programs, other than restraining them and keeping goevernment spending under control. But, taking care of the Defense Dept was their forte.

However, with the election of 2000 and the nomination of George W Bush, that all changed. Their reputation was worthless. They were incompetent and lackadaisical and our nation was attacked by a few terrorists that did great damage to our nation. In their embarrassment and search for revenge, they made numerous blunders and mistakes. One of the biggest blunders was the invasion of Iraq, based on their well-oiled propaganda machine, also known as the corporate media, and their unlimited capacity to lie, they led us into an unprecedented and unprovoked invasion of another sovereign nation. We are now reaping the casualties and the costs from their blunder.

Since they can no longer do foreign policy in a competent manner, there is not much left for their Party to stand on. They are living on used oxygen. Could we be entering another Whig era? is it just a matter of time until the "conservatives" have to re-invent themselves once again?

1. I remember a front page on one of the weeklies (Time?)
while Clinton was prez, during Kosovo, that said "Why can't Democrats win wars?" Pssh. He and Clark DID win that war, with no US casualties, while the GOP Senate were openly giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Where are those headlines now?

3. That makes two things the GOP can't do well.
The other is fiscally responsibility. They're out spending like sailors on liberty. They keep slapping down the credit card. Unfortunately, the bill will come due very soon. Then it will be, "What was I thinking?"

4. Two corrections
1. Sailors w/ credit cards eventually have to pay their own bills
2. When this bill comes due, it will be, "Those tax-and-spend Democrats did this"

It was a lie to begin with, but now they're so bloody freakin' awful, they can't even pretend to be good at it.

6. I just am feeling SO gosh darn hopeless ...
about all of this ... Your point is taken, as well as the following points ...

The republican party was was supposed to stand for THREE things ... For the last 15 years we have heard them beat their drum left and right about how they are 1) better with the budget 2) better internationally and securitywise 3) The party of small government ... Add in the MUCH ballyhooded "moral" and "ethicial" issues they blew up in relation to Clinton ...

In the last 6 years they have been unmitigated disasters in ALL of these areas ... By any reasonable, intelligent and sane point of a view, COMPLETE disasters in these areas ...

And, what do we hear today ... The MSM doing one of two things ... 1) Promoting whatever hair brained lie the right has put out to put some bizarre positive spin on their great success in "keeping our country safe" or creating a "booming economy" ... OR ... 2) How BOTH parties are horrible ...

8. Republicans 7:30pm Feb 14th
Not every Republican is pleased with their president or subscribes to the view that Carl Rove can "Re-energize the base"

Have you ever been in an Albertsons or a Vons at 7:30 in the evening on Feb 14th? There are always a couple of guys over by the card section picking out a last minute card for their special someone. They know that the day is almost up and they have to come home with something. But lets face it. The card was suppose to be presented in the morning. The flowers or balloons were suppose to arrive at work around noon. Dinner out should be just finishing up and at this time we should be moving on to the gift of the flattering lingerie. Cute box, nice bow, ect...

This guy is doomed.

Cut your loses dude. Buy a six pack of Budweiser and rent a Steven Segal video. You're on the couch tonight and you know it.

Coming home now with an 8:00 pm Valentines card is useless.

Mr. Rove...

Why weren't the tax cuts permanent to begin with?

Why are we spending billions on the Department on Homeland Security while 500,000 illegal aliens march in the streets of Los Angeles?

Why has the federal budget ballooned under this president?

Has even one page of rules been eliminated from the nightmare that is the U.S tax code?

Since when, according to the Constitution, did the (Republican controled)Legislative Branch give up power to declare war, and pass that power to the Executive Branch?

Harriet Miers?

Sorry Mr. Rove, it's 8:30 pm.

The Card means nothing.

We know what we mean to you. You're on the couch...

10. "morals" & gay-baiting to run on
Those seem like general terms.

What do you consider "morals"?

And what do you consider gay-baiting?

11. I honestly dont know what passes for "morals" these days with Republicans.
Apparently lying/hoaxing a nation into war and lying about pretty much every single issue is just fine w/them.

Murdering & Lying aint thought of too well in the Bible I read.

Gay baiting?- oh I'm talking about how the Republicans need to scare people over gays in order to win- remember the ballot measures in '04?

12. What do you consider "morals"
Do we live in a country dictated to by the bible or do we live in a country of law? In the same book that castigates homosexuals it says you can not eat shellfish or wear clothing made form two types of cloth. Both of those sins are equal to the sin of homosexuality but nary a mention by the bible thumpers. Why is that do you suppose?
