Poll question: Best Democratic Congressional leader?
Edited on Wed Jun-21-06 08:40 PM by Radical Activist
Of the Democrats who hold official leadership positions in the House and Senate, who do you think is doing the best job? Who takes the best approach and best represents your beliefs?

My money is on Dick Durbin. He's one of the most reliable and outspoken progressives in Congress, and maintains the ability to appeal to moderates. He also knows how to get things done. John Lewis is my favorite House leader, which is an easy pick since he is a living Saint after all.

6. Thanks for pointing that out
The website I checked was obviously out of date. I've added the new guy.

16. None of the Above. DENNIS KUCINICH! Anyone in the CBC!
The "leaders" you have listed above aren't leading, IMHO. So I shrugged and then burst into tears. I thought my post was clear...

Sorry if I didn't give you the thoughtful reply you wanted. My response was emotional. Something about the beheaded soldiers, and the kidnapped workers, and the Iraqis who are going to die before the US GETS OUT of Iraq, and the Republicans stalling reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act, and the Austrian women who stopped the US reported in the Austrian grocery to comment that Bush reminds them of Hitler, and coming Labor Board decision that could dramatically damage Unions, and...

Emotional tonight.

18. Ok
I wasn't sure what two emoticons meant.
I would point out though, that John Lewis is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and that Dick Durbin takes good positions on the war and many other issues, although he doesn't get much attention for it on DU for some reason.

Edited on Wed Jun-21-06 08:32 PM by AndyTiedye
Seems to me that Congressman Conyers has shown more leadership than anyone else IN Congress lately.

17. I agree. Two thumbs up to John Conyers.
I had the pleasure of meeting him at an Al Gore campaign stop in Detroit in 2000.

4. Ok, I made a quick change to add John Lewis
Because he's one of my favorites and I forgot he had a top leaderhip position in the House.

11. he took the lead on body armor
and proper protection for helicopters etc.

Way back in the fall of 2003, before anyone else, Durbin was making a stink with Rumsfeld. :toast:

14. I voted for Durbin
However Leahy is way upfront too. I don't understand this lack of leadership charge, I think they have finally started to stand up.

The votes on these war amendments will tell us all a lot. Of course lieberman gave the opening statement for the rethugs.
