Supporting the President or Hiding from Karl Rove
I was watching an interview with Chris Shays (R-CT) last night. He basically says that his own
mother suggests that he change his stance on Staying the Course. He says that if he's not re-elected then he will know that people don't support the war. What kind of reasoning is that,
Connecticut is a blue state, it is vehemently against the Iraq War. Are these individuals
staying the course because they believe that it's the right thing to do, that it is what
their voters want, OR do they do know the war was based on a lie and they are AFRAID of Rove.
Now we have Rove criticizing John Murtha, (D-PA) in the House, he was in the marine corps
from 1952-55, 66-67, and in the USMCR from 55-66 and from 67 until 1990. The minute you
say anything you are targeted and ostracized. Are these people thinking of their constituents
or of Rove & what he wants when they vote.

represent their OWN views and the views of their constituents.

Many will side with Bush to put up a front of strength, or to prevent EMBARASSING the president - but rarely do you hear any passion for the stay the course strategy from them.

Dems should use the Repub loyalty to Bush over the citizenry and pound them with it through to November.

5. Government of Karl Rove, By Karl Rove and For Karl Rove
has effectively replaced Government of the people, for the people and by the people.
Remember this administration has been defined as a cabal.

A cabal: a small group of individuals joined in a secret, often political intrique; a junta.

eye in and out of government. Thousands of files. Continuously updated by all the data mining.

2. If everyone knows that Carl Rove is behind the
sneaky, underhanded tricks... why don't they just come out and say to everyone... if I don't vote this way... the bully will do really mean things to me.

How much money did it take to find all the dirt on every member on congress and hold it against them.

4. They started NSA phonetaps BEFORE 9-11 - - what does that tell ya?
One of the things we learned from Hunting of the President, is that BushInc starts working to get re-elected the day after the inauguration. They set sights on all potential opposition and work to entrap them somehow, some way.

6. It was free on the Terra, Terra, Terra Plan
We now have Joe McCarthy back in spirit, with electronic snooping devices that are "secret" for
security reasons. They have it all, bank statements, phone conversations, e-mails, surveillance
24-7 and refuse to acknowledge any laws that safeguard the right to privacy for any american.
It's all terra, all the time.

3. Fighting Rove
Murtha fights back and doesn't pull punches.

Almost all the other Dems are sniveling cowards afraid to annoy the Republican Noise Machine.

Both sides show a complete lack of respect for the judgement of the American people.

9. John Dean's letter to Karl Rove
No president has abused his powers as Richard Nixon did, often acting under the color of "national security."

It's unimaginable that the Bush Administration would want to risk repeating the mistakes of the Nixon presidency, yet the continuing insistence on secrecy by your White House is startlingly Nixonian. I'm talking about everything from stiffing Congressional requests from information and witnesses, to employing an executive order to demolish the 1978 law providing public access to presidential papers, to forcing the Government Accounting Office to go to Court to obtain information about how the White House is spending tax money when creating a pro-energy industry Vice Presidential task force. The Bush Administration apparently seeks to reverse the post-Watergate trend of open government.

As you are the President's top political adviser, let me draw to your attention the political wisdom of... (former) U.S. senator from New York, Daniel Patrick Moynihan. You might want to take a look at his recent book, entitled Secrecy. Senator Moynihan sums it up nicely: "secrecy is for losers."

10. Check out what the conservatives are saying about Rove
Karl Rove’s America: A nation divided

For those conservatives who think Karl Rove is a political mastermind and a man in whom the party should place its future, consider this: The biggest threat to this nation today is a direct result of Karl Rove’s warped sense of the political process.

There is a price to pay for pandering to the ultraconservatives, for playing off of people’s fears to drive them to the polls, for responding to any critic by the most severe, vitriolic response possible. We’re seeing the consequences of that today.

First, look at the way Washington functions today. I’m not about to suggest Karl Rove is the one who started D.C. down the path of such partisan hatred, but he kindled the fire and stocked the anger to the point where it would be extremely hard for any candidate to smooth out the tension between the parties. And given the numerous obstacles both parties have established to forming a viable third party, the nation faces gridlock in Washington for years to come barring a sweeping call for cooperation by voters.

12. You're compiling a great thread here. I hope left media picks up on your
overall observation - that Republicans are serving Rove out of fear, and in so doing, are going against their own constituents and the American people.

17. Good article - thanks for posting it.
I'm always reassured (at least somewhat) when I see "moderate Republican" in the description of the author - who then sets about telling the truth. And this is evidently a moderate TEXAS Republican. And whoever this is, he/she is absolutely correct. kkkarl would have been delirious over the thought of a Civil War, back in the day.

11. Another take on Rove
In five appearances before a grand jury Mr. Rove employed what one source called “his Jedi mind tricks.”

“But it was all for nothing,” the unnamed source said, “Since the lack of charges against him will only confirm America’s worst fears — that Karl Rove controls everything.”

14. PBS Frontline did a special on Karl Rove
Here's a snip, listen folks, please support PBS, they're not perfect, I know but where else
can you actually hear the truth now.

The program begins on Election Day 2004. As the president emerged from the Crawford, Texas, fire station after voting, the press corps was surprised by what they saw. "The people around him were very concerned that they had lost," Washington Post reporter 1. Mike Allen tells FRONTLINE, "and you see the aides, including the president's daughters … looking like they were at a funeral."
And as the day went on, early exit polls delivered to Karl Rove on Air Force One seemed to show a substantial victory for Sen. John Kerry.
"The air went out of the airplane," said Bush chief media strategist Mark McKinnon. "The air just got sucked out."
But Rove, who had spent years courting what he called the Republican conservative base, immediately crunched the numbers to see if all the handholding and political deal making with that group would yield the turnout he expected. Before long Rove knew the exit polls were wrong.

Yes, Karl Rove knew they were wrong, he knew that the "largely invisible" grassroots movement
in Ohio would save Bush. I heard a speech where he mentions these largely invisible voters.

19. I think these largely invisible people might show up again at the polls
in 2008.

I highly encourage everyone to get involved in Ohio--if you live near there, or your own state to see that Democrats are elected.

I'm strongly thinking all of du needs to take a trip to DC to sit in those Senator's and Representative's offices to demand:

1. Media reform
2. Fair elections--pass the VRA
3. Repeal all laws passed in the last 3 years
4. Hold hearings on Fisa and possible impeachment.
5. Make DC a state at long last! Thousands of Americans who pay taxes with no representation
6. anymore I think of later.

it's what they call meet and greet, shake the hands, turn over to a staffer, writing, money
and constant local activities mean more I think in the long run.

25. Quite right.
And Rove is trying to be everywhere now because he needs to re-assert himself as Chief Bully. They could very easily slip out of his grasp, it they'd stick their heads out of the Beltway air and smell what's happening in the country.

28. I think that the reason they voted against Iraq draw down
because they knew it was going to crumble and they would be getting out fast, all that
stately, considered diplomacy they mutter is crap, they are not in control, they only thing
they have is the junkyard growl, once that wears off, they're lost. When they heard we
were the remaining superpower, they lost it, they figured they could run the country
on rogue diplomacy and voodoo economics, well the world powers have regrouped and are
sick of this crap.
