Letter to Hardball--We take this election seriously

I meant to post this letter last night but have had a problem keeping track of my password.

No matter which candidate we support, I think we all can agree that we take this election very seriously. The press needs to stop parroting the line about angry Democrats and start figuring out what's behind that anger.


Anyway, here's the letter:

I'm a political junkie so I can't resist watching Hardball once in awhile (although I hope your dismal ratings eventually end your sorry run on cable).

Anyway, I think that half the panel got it right last night. Most of the country (those of us who didn't get the tax breaks, pay for our own health insurance, and struggle to put our kids through college) do think Bush is out of touch. And I'm one of the lucky ones. I still can afford insurance or think about college for my sons.

There are those of us out here who are very serious about what's going on in the country. We don't care about exhibitions of Bush's so-called "manliness" on flight decks, or the color of Teresa Heinz Kerry's scarf, or whether Kerry's smile is broad enough. It's only when you're comfortably fat and sassy that you can worry about the trivial. I can't waste my time with wisecracks. I'm much more concerned about my children's future and the future of the rest of the children in this country--a future that economically, environmentally, and constitutionally has been squandered by Bush and the silly squadron of sycophants who make up much of the fourth estate.

I didn't vote for Bush, but I didn't hate him when he "won." I despise him now, but I despise the lazy press more.

Take an outing to the real world, Mr. Matthews, and you won't be so shocked at what's happened to Bush in the polls. We're taking this election very seriously and, come November, even Bush's advisors won't be able to shelter him from that reality.

I got a canned response thanking me for my comments/suggestions. But I'm sure they can make good use of the "despise" line.

if the press would honestly take the pulse of the nation, what you're saying is the beat they'd hear.
