U.S. Population to hit 300,000,000
As of midday Sunday, there were 299,061,199 people in the United States, according to the Census Bureau's population clock. The estimate is based on annual numbers for births, deaths and immigration, averaged throughout the year.

The U.S. adds a person every 11 seconds, according to the clock. A baby is born every eight seconds, someone dies every 13 seconds, and someone migrates to the U.S. every 30 seconds.

At that rate, the 300 millionth person in the U.S. will be born - or cross the border - in October, though bureau officials are wary of committing to a particular month because of the subjective nature of the clock.

2. The number 153,000,000 is the one I learned in High school
I am just recalling that was the number. I wonder if I recall right, and it would be in 1949-53

6. I don't know who's transposing numbers here, but...
I was in high school at the same time (49-53), and I thought it was 135 million. Not that it matters now, of course.

9. I am sure it was me, as you should see my check book
It just seemed like so many people in not even my whole life time that it jumped into my head. I grew up in small town America and they have doubled in size but I do recall this. Once reading that the county I grew up in would soon have as many people as they had before the Civil War. It was such an interesting remark that I did some hunting on what had happen to this County and why they would say that and if it was true. It is true and most of the people left for the West, because of the change in times, and it was a County of small farms that were on their way out. One of the most interesting things left behind is stone walls to mark the land, small grave yards, and second growth woods. Many of the town were sort of giving to people because they fought in the Rev. in the first place.

3. The truth is the census does NOT count many.
I'd wager we are already there.

4. Corporate America and rich people everywhere love OVERpopulation

The higher and faster our population rate grows, the more rich people, corporate America, and other members of the power elite love it.

More people here means, among other things:

* Property values go up

* Cost of everything goes up - from food to housing and apartment rentals, and on and on

* Cost of labor goes down

* As people struggle to "keep up with the higher cost of living, they are less likely to be politically aware or active, so wedge issues are easier to use to divide the electorate

* Value of stock goes up

* As big companies get bigger, it's harder for upstarts to penetrate the markets big co's serve

The above certainly is not by any means an exhaustive list.

China and India when they really get going. Cause Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Russian are all pretty soon that size too. Just little baby markets compared to the big two.

I wonder what the date is when India surpasses the USA in terms of equality indexes? Cause then they will be huge marketwise.

7. my view of immigration will never change..
our country should make it easiest for those from Mexico to legally become citizens. We should also give priority to political refugees from around the world. Most importantly we should have an immigration policy based on population growth.

In other words, we should allow in just enough immigrants in a given year to makeup for population loss. But otherwise immigration should be restricted to only those who now reside in our country, but are not citizens.
