Ney's campaign manager supoenaed - others jumping ship
Edited on Thu Jun-29-06 08:42 PM by cmd
Matthew D. Parker, who serves as campaign manager for embattled GOP Rep. Bob Ney, has been subpoenaed by a federal grand jury in Washington, DC, which is investigating the Abramoff scandal.

Parker and Ney bought houses on the same street in Heath last year within days of each other. Parker's congressional salary also climbed exponentially throughout the year, quarterly House of Representatives expense reports indicate.

Parker went from earning $4,440 in the year's first quarter, to $10,000 in the second quarter, to $18,499 in the third quarter to $33,500 in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, Bill Burton, communications director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, issued a statement predicting that "Ney's cover-ups could soon become bright orange coveralls."

Daily Kos also reports:
Will Heaton, Ney's chief of staff, and Brian Walsh, the communications director, are planning to leave Ney's staff soon...Chris Otillio, Ney's legislative director, left the office last Friday..."

WASHINGTON – In another blow to Rep. Bob Ney, the beleaguered Ohio congressman is losing three of his top aides as he fends off a federal investigation into his ties with convicted former lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Meanwhile, a grand jury reportedly subpoenaed the manager of Ney's re-election campaign, who also was Ney’s Ohio district director, for testimony in the Abramoff investigation.

Chief of Staff Will Heaton and Communications Director Brian Walsh are planning to leave the Heath Republican’s office in coming days, Walsh confirmed Thursday. Ney’s legislative director, Chris Otillio, already has left.

Roll Call, a newspaper that covers Capitol Hill, reported that Matt Parker, Ney’s campaign manager, was subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury in the Abramoff investigation. The paper, quoting anonymous sources, said more subpoenas of Ney staffers are expected.
