Maybe Democrats lose because we throw more temper tantrums

than the Republicans.

When I hear:

"If my primary election candidate doesn't win, I'm rather sit out the election than vote for that DINO."

What that sounds like to me is:

"If you don't let me win this game, I'm going to take my toys and go back home."

1. I agree...
a DINO is better than a repuke, and let's face it, the choice is usually between a turd sandwich and a giant douche anyway (if I remember my south park correctly)...to paraphrase the evil rummy..."you win elections with the candidates you have, not the candidates you wish you had"

3. I'm sorry,
you are thinking of Joe lieberman, DLC. He is the one who is threatnening to leave the party because he's subject to a primary.

I haven't heard anyone yet on this board this year threaten to vote third party because "their guy didn't win."

a few nutjobs, one guy whose name literally is DELUSIONAL. but its not limited to the left and United States Senators aren't immune from it.

If I were to start a thread, I'd talk about the United States Senator, cause I'm more concerned about that.

13. I see a lot of this in almost any threads about Cantwell, Hillary Clinton,
and Diane Feinstein.

Lieberman is the only male Democrat I see treated this way, but he is far more conservative than any of them.

4. what you call temper tantrums ...
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 06:39 AM by welshTerrier2
some call standing on principles ...

whether you agree with their "voting strategy" or not, the disrespect labels like "temper tantrums" shows is most unfortunate ...

i, for one, will not be voting for any candidate who is still calling for continued occupation in Iraq ...

this isn't about toys; it's about real stuff ... those who get their warm and fuzzies by proclaiming support for any party regardless of circumstances may feel all high and mighty; they aren't ...

Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 06:56 AM by Vinca
and they don't have them in the right places. I'd like to see a few in the House and Senate. No more, "My good friend, the distinguished Senator from Wahoo." How about, "Mr. Schmuck, the idiot who wants to spend taxpayer's money on a Lawrence Welk museum."

8. You're right. They should spend more time fighting the Repubs.
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 07:11 AM by pnwmom
And less time fighting among themselves.

11. Candidates could achieve a higher turnout...

by not alienating parts of their base.

Voters who protest always have a specific reason - right or wrong. But I never hear someone saying they're not voting because the candidate is "too progressive." (unless they're GOP).

Cantwell has an image problem because she's lost it on a couple of high profile votes: Bankrupcy Bill and minimum wage increase spring to mind (also conflicting reports on her Alito confirmation vote)

King County liberals notice this stuff. Now she's got an uphill battle - even though her overall voting record is pretty decent.

12. Even her base isn't unified! I couldn't have cared less about her vote
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 07:37 AM by pnwmom
on the Alito confirmation, because we could NEVER have won it, with or without her. But I appreciate strongly her stances on environmental and energy issues, e.g., preserving the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge and the Puget Sound; and her work on energy issues, e.g, Enron.

We don't just have Democrats and Republicans in this state, we have a lot of moderates and independents -- who can swing elections. And they might not vote for someone who is "too progressive" just as they might not vote for someone who is "too conservative."
