Wes Clark, Ned Lamont and Joe Lieberman - funny
Clark is blogging at dKos. He was asked if he would support the winner of the CT primary.

I am a proud member of the Democratic Party, and I believe it is our party's responsibility to support the will of the Democratic primary voters in Connecticut. I personally look forward to supporting the candidate CT voters elect as the Democratic nominee. Though, as an aside, I must say I find it ironic that Senator Lieberman is now planning a potential run as an independent after he continually questioned my loyalty to the Democratic Party during the 2004 presidential primary.

1. I commented on this very thing a couple of days ago!
Lieberman, on top of everything else it seems, is also a HYPOCRITE. I'm shocked! :sarcasm:

Good for Wes!

12. Yes you did!
I remember chiming in either here or at CCN. Lieberman yammering about Lamont NOT being a Democrat, but threatening to challenge the Dem. nominee. I'm so glad that Wes Clark picked up on that. I also remember that during a break on one of those so-called debates, Wes walked up to Joe and said he was incorrigible.

8. Does Wes have any info on an '08 run?

I will support this man (as I did on '04) for president.

He is untouchable (War hero - no Senate/House record to trash...) Good public speaker (not 'elitist')

Rove stated in '04 "Give me anyone but Howard Dean" Why? Because he had no history to trash and he was against the war from day one.

How do they make a General look weak militarily? He's almost too perfect...

9. He ain't "untouchable"
I'm a supporter, but if we've learned anything it's that no facts, no history, no resume make a candidate immune from the smear machine. No matter who the nominee is, we have to be prepared to counter the lies rather than assume that they'll bounce off.

In Clark's case, they'll probably play the Dr. Strangelove "General Madman" card.

(And actually, Rove said in 2004 that Howard Dean was the candidate he wanted to face.)

19. Yeah ...
I don't say he is "untouchable" ... But, he is as hard a candidate the Ds have that this point for them to smear ...

In conversating with repukes on a general board, they do have some talking points about how he was highly unliked, and was "fired" during his service ...

23. As a Clark supporter early in 04 I wondered what they would
throw at him. Unfortunately, that campaign was over before I thought too much about it.

I think he should run again and if he makes it, with a lesser known running partner. A woman governor perhaps.

Wes would be hard to beat and hard to smear but I guess they'd use that "he was fired" lie. However, in 08 the Dems had better be ready to stomp on the lies before they get going, and keep stomping as loudly as possible!

21. TC
A cryptic note: This brings back memories of the scheduling of Lieberman's speech at the Democratic National Convention. Who's speech would follow the parade of the generals in prime time. Joe won that argument, but then again he didn't. The General gave a memorable jewel of a speech...does anyone anywhere remember Lieberman's?

Do you remember?

27. I purposely avoided Liberman's speech...
Edited on Sun Jul-16-06 07:34 AM by Totally Committed
After what he'd done to Wes, I saw boycotting it as my one chance to demonstrate my disapproval. Granted, it wasn't much, but it was all I had.

And, the speech Wes gave that night remains, for me, one of the most memorable at any Democratic Convention. It ranks up there with those of Mario Cuomo, Ted Kennedy, and Shirley Chisholm. He was on fire! How could a speech by the droning, whiny,mean-spirited Joe Lieberman ever measure up??? I mean... really?

:hi:

20. What a mess
The Dems set up the schedule to accommodate Joe. Clark then set up a huge fundraiser in NY which took into account the schedule. It was then that Joe suddenly had to change the schedule...and so the DNC did. Clark was left holding the bag. Joe blamed the General. In the end, the General had to change his plans to work around Joe and the DNC, while Joe still yammered on about it.

Terry Macawful was also part of the problem back then.

28. Remember those days????
Terry McAuliffe was a chicken-sh*t. He let a clearly last-placce Lieberman order him around like a drill sergeant. It was disgusting. And THEN, he let Joe bad-mouth Wes for the whole thing endlessly. That primary season was not a mess... it was a disgrace.

If ANYONE should have learned from that primary season, it's Dean. Maybe Under Dean, the DNC will support candidates who have an actual chance of winning, and ask those who don't to take a hike earlier this time.

16. I caught something interesting when Lieberman was on Imus the other day:
He criticized Lamont for changing his view on the war at least "FIVE TIMES". Guess what! "Five" was the same number that Lieberman used when he criticized Wes's stance on the war.

I remember the statement clearly because it was the first time that I realized that Lieberlooser was really getting on my nerves. This is what he said: "Wes, I'm really disappointed in you. You've changed your opinion on the Iraq war at least FIVE TIMES." Of course, Joe knew quite well what Wes's REAL view of the war was because he had heard his Senate testimony.

So what's with Joementum's fixation on the number "5"? "FIVE" seems to represent part of a some magic formula for him.

At least Clark has gone in the right direction these past few years....Liberman has gone in the opposite.

Very astute point!

When I read it, I laughed out loud, and thought to myself... YES!!!!

Honesty, courage, and integrity, and a killer sense of the absurd... that's Wes for ya!
