Europeans Evacuating Lebanon, U.S. “Forming Plans” While Bush Does Photo-ops
July 16th, 2006 @ 12:47 pm

The Washington Post reports that the U.S. is “trying to find a way to evacuate” an estimated 25,000 American citizens are who are trapped in war-torn Lebanon, while “Israel, with U.S. support, intends to resist calls for a cease-fire and continue a longer-term strategy of punishing Hezbollah, which is likely to include several weeks of precision bombing in Lebanon, according to senior Israeli and U.S. officials.”

Yesterday, the U.S. State Department said that “it is developing plans to transport Americans from Lebanon to the neighboring island of Cyprus.”

From there, people could board commercial aircraft to safe destinations. But as of last night, no U.S. evacuation plan had been finalized.

Meanwhile, as Americans in Lebanon wait for word on evacuation plans, our fearless leader, George W. Bush, is busy at the G8 Summit partaking in photo-ops like driving an electric cart to dinner and biking the grounds of the G8 Summit…

Could someone please explain to Bush that he needs to get on the stick and get our citizens out of Lebanon? While the U.S. is still without a plan, the Europeans’ are on top of the situation with voluntary evacuations underway for their citizens.

European nations are sending ferries, buses and airplanes to evacuate their citizens. France, a nation with historic ties to Lebanon, has about 17,000 citizens living there. French officials announced plans yesterday to ferry citizens to Cyprus, where Air France aircraft would be waiting to fly them to Paris, according to the Associated Press. The voluntary evacuations are to begin today.

needs to be done.

I heard on the radio late this morning that something had started re evacuation. Has it? WINS gives very brief, undetailed, and probably inaccurate news. Their weather forecasts are not good.

There is another thread that says 21 people out of an estimated 25,000 have been evacuated.

While Americans Wait to be Evacuated from Lebanon, Someone Should Ask - Hey George, What’s In That Bottle?

July 16th, 2006 @ 2:12 pm

While Americans in Lebanon wait for an evacuation plan, George W. Bush has been taking part in photo-ops at the G-8 Summit. Here’s another priceless photo-op moment…

Maybe someone should be asking — Hey George, what’s in that bottle?

More Bush is Out of Touch on Middle East Crisis: He’d Rather Talk About Roast Pig
July 16th, 2006 @ 6:40 pm

{snip}

Newsday reported yesterday on Bush’s wild pig tale (hat tip to reader Dotti J), as “Israeli warplanes were preparing an attack on Lebanon Thursday afternoon, and a Lebanese militia was aiming a rocket at the ancient Israeli city of Safed.” It appears that Bush was more interested in “bantering with reporters in Germany about a pig,” than answering questions about the Middle East crisis…

Bush kept bringing up the roast wild boar he was about to dine on at a banquet that night, even when asked about the swelling crisis in the Middle East, where pig meat is forbidden to religious Jews and Muslims.

“Does it concern you that the Beirut airport has been bombed?” a reporter asked. “And do you see a risk of triggering a wider war?”

“I thought you were going to ask me about the pig,” Bush replied blithely.

If by some chance Americans were to get hurt over there -- maimed or killed -- God forbid, what better way for the warmongering Bush & co to use that to their advantage. It sure would make Bill Kristol's "Our War" meme easier to serve up to the masses.
