Time for a DU Pity Party: Tom Delay going broke from legal bills
I know this saddens so many DUers to see such a great leader like Tom Delay struggle financially to prove his innocense. I'm just hoping he has enough money stashed away so he doesn't have to go to any of his secret offshore bank accounts to pay for this travesty of justice. Perhaps we DUers can start a fund to help poor Tom Delay out of his finanicial woes and perhaps next month you'll see me in the centerfold of Playboy magazine too

Legal Bills Eat Into Tom DeLay's Campaign Cash

RAW STORY
Published: Tuesday July 18, 2006

The costs of legal defense relating to investigations and indictments are draining Tom DeLay of money he raised for his cancelled re-election campaign, RAW STORY has learned.

A report in today's Roll Call indicated that the former Texas Congressman and House Republican Majority Leader has spent $1.7 million on legal fees, leaving him with only $641,000 in his campaign reserves. DeLay's legal team is currently drawn from nine different law firms.

A recent ruling by a federal judge has required DeLay's name to stay on the ballot in his now former Congressional district. If he chooses to go forward with an attempt at re-election, he will face Democrat Nick Lampson who currently holds $2.2 million in campaign funds. DeLay would then also be faced with the dilemma of simultaneously financing both his legal defense and his political campaign.

3. I call bullshit...
I would be very surprised if Tom didn't have a rather large fortune squirreled away in some offshore Caribbean bank account. He couldn't have possibly run through all the money he's stolen yet.

11. Yes they will-Delay is too good a soldier to let this happen to him
in public at least.

See Ann Coulter and her work as an "elf" also.

Delay won't be allowed to become a C-Span "Behind the music" special ("And then...it all went wrong....") plus he is wide open to fundraise now.

9. I think that the gop would not be unhappy to see him
lose and go broke. He was as big a bas...d to them as he was to democrats. They really would not be unhappy to get him out of their hair for this election. He is not broke.

24. He'd have to qualify for one
And, given that he's worth a fortune, no judge would rule that he was indigent so that one would be appointed.

But, I get your point.

I was just clarifying that PDs are only used when the accused cannot afford his/her own attorney.

17. great idea but it's not about the money ...
a guy like Delay is used to being in the spotlight ... he's a very social animal ... he's used to having lots of people around ...

money isn't going to help him ...

what i'm worried about is how lonely he's going to be on those first few difficult days in jail ... the poor guy ... i can't imagine how much he'll suffer ...

maybe we could have a DU contest that would include letters to Tom and maybe a bunch of "creative" photoshopped images "suitable for hanging" ... i think it would give all DU'ers a chance to really connect with poor old Tom and might help him through those first difficult days of incarceration ...

i'm sure there's plenty we would all like to share with him ... just a thought ....
