In my opinion, we need more "interpretation" of the news...

Mostly, that is the job of the editorial pages of newspapers, but they are nowhere near sufficient to interpret what is going on in today's world. That is why bloggers and the Internet are so important, in my opinion. They delve much deeper and cover many more bases than do the editorialists of the major newspapers. So, keep it up guys, your opinions are serving a great need in the information struggle. Although some may say you are a conspiracist or worse, the opinions with validity will separate themselves from the chaff. Your "interpretation" is important.

a return to simply relevant, important FACT-based reporting would lessen the need for all this interpretation and counter-interpretation.

Main stream media make too much use of interconnected words e.g. 9/11 and Iraq, Lebanon and Iran etc etc. and seem to have a licence to invent news. Problem then is that dummies take that "news" in and are stupid enough to not only believe it but also to re-transmit it verbally. Those probelems don't generally occur on honest blogs.

Insofar as interpetation and news invention are concerned the MSM are biased by their sponsers e.g. Fux and Monsanto. As a result editorials can be grossly distorted and it becomes necessary on occasions to read between the lines.

Broadly speaking I would say the UK news is overall more honest than you get in the USA.

when i start threads on DU, about 80 - 90% (guessing) include a link to an article i read that i consider important ...

HOWEVER, i almost never just post a link to the article or even a link with a few excerpts ...

i find it much more valuable to try to put the article in context as i understand the issues it raises ... most of my threads include my analysis first followed by a link to the article and the best excerpts i can find ...

it might be easier just to toss out a link but it does very little for discourse and analysis ... i think you've said it perfectly, Kentuck, we need more "interpretation" of the news ...
