3. Jon Stewart called him a "vagina" last night.
he-he-he

Jon paraphrased: "So, Brownback is saying that an eagle is an egg because it comes from an egg. That must mean Brownback is a vagina."

36. Every Sperm is Sacred!
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

GIRL:
Let the heathen spill theirs
On the dusty ground.
God shall make them pay for
Each sperm that can't be found.

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is wanted.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.

MUM:
Hindu, Taoist, Mormon,
Spill theirs just anywhere,
But God loves those who treat their
Semen with more care.

MEN:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
WOMEN:
If a sperm is wasted,...
CHILDREN:
...God get quite irate.

PRIEST:
Every sperm is sacred.
BRIDE and GROOM:
Every sperm is good.
NANNIES:
Every sperm is needed...
CARDINALS:
...In your neighbourhood!

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is useful.
Every sperm is fine.
FUNERAL CORTEGE:
God needs everybody's.
MOURNER #1:
Mine!
MOURNER #2:
And mine!
CORPSE:
And mine!

NUN:
Let the Pagan spill theirs
O'er mountain, hill, and plain.
HOLY STATUES:
God shall strike them down for
Each sperm that's spilt in vain.

EVERYONE:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite iraaaaaate

91. Monty Python
Edited on Fri Jul-21-06 12:39 PM by JPZenger
I believe that song is from Monty Python's Meaning of Life. The Catholic family is living in a small house with small children stuffed everywhere and hanging from the ceiling. Then they shift to the stuffy quiet Protestant family across the street. The husband is saying how stupid the Catholics are because they think the only time they can have sex is to conceive children. His wife then says, "But we have two children and we've only had sex twice ..."

We should all be breeding like rabbits, having as many babies as possible!
Girls should get pregnant as soon as they can!
It should be illegal to thaw those snowflakes!
There should be forced artificial insemination of infertile women!
They should have to 'adopt' these snowflakes!

We are talking about potential Hannah's here!
Millions of potential BABIES!

Seriously though, here's a link:

http://tailrank.com/posts/562949953739905/Brownback_Holds_Up_Drawing_Of_Embryo__Asks_&%238216%3BAre_You_Going_To_Kill_Me_&%238217%3B
Brownback Holds Up Drawing Of Embryo Asks Are You Going To Kill Me

"Brownback is misleading. The embryos funded by H.R. 810 were “created for the purposes of in vitro fertilization…which are spare or in excess of clinical need and in every single case are slated for medical waste.” Only about 10 percent of embryos are adopted -- the rest are disposed of. If H.R. 810 passes, they will instead be used to develop potentially live-saving cures for millions of people."

So why isn't Brownback introducing legislation to
outlaw the disposal of these frozen embryos?
According to his 'reasoning' that should be against the law.

84. And aren't these fundy "parent's" going AGAINST god's will?
If god had meant them to have children then he would have "blessed" them with the physical capability, wouldn't he? If they're not able to procreate isn't that a sign from god that he doesn't want them to have children? Who are they to go against god's will and use this "science" to create children where there would ordinarily have been none? These fundy nuts are all so eager to use "science" when it's to THEIR advantage to have "snowflake" children but no one else can use it when they have a horrible, crippling disease. THAT would be going against god's will! :eyes:

The hypocrisy displayed by these narrow minded, bible thumping twits is WAAAAAAAAAAY over the top! :grr:

88. One wonders, doesn't one. It's the ladies who try to give birth to 6 to 8
... that really get to me. Invariably they say that they couldn't possibly consent to (I forget the exact term) selective reduction because it "must be God's Will for us to have all these babies."

I'm like you. It makes me want to say, "No honey, it was God's Will for you to be barren and never have any babies at all. It took the massive intervention of SCIENCE to get those fertilized eggs where they are, and it's going to take even more SCIENCE -- not miracles, science -- not to mention hundreds of thousands of dollars in hospital bills to allow you to take home these grossly premature, sick, and often permanently handicapped babies."

Mind you, I am completely supportive of women and men who need help conceiving a longed-for baby, and I understand why so many opt for twins when it's that hard to even get pregnant. More power to them.

Sorry, but all the publicity attending those super-high-multiple pregnancies got to me. God didn't intend for a human womb to carry so many at once.

Hekate

48. If Hannah's artistic abilities are not any more advanced than this...
I would submit that she is also too young to know what is truly going on here. I suspect Mommy and Daddy gave her the fairy tale version, with a lovely happy ending for the lucky little princess, and a not so happy ending for those sad, lonely little embryos still waiting to be adopted. After which, they provided her with paper and crayons, and asked her to draw a picture of said fairy tale.

Who dares to attack a child's "feelings"? Who dares to question her being used as a pawn for the Republican party?

Certainly not Ann Coulter. :eyes:

...zygotes are NOT implanted every month, simply gone in a woman's monthly cycle without her ever knowing. It didn't implant -- she was not pregnant -- but by golly the sperm and egg met and divided a few times. :eyes:

Responding to the RW hysteria over "life begins at conception" she followed that logic and asked if the next thing would be for them to hold funerals over menstrual pads. Hekate

32. Thank you, Did he show this picture of a actual Stem Cell !
Stem cells have huge potential

Stem cells are thought to hold huge potential for treating a wide range of disease and disability.

Scientists around the world are working on techniques to refine stem cell therapy.

However, their use is mired in controversy.

What are stem cells?

Most adult cells in the body have a particular purpose which cannot be changed.

For instance, a liver cell is developed to perform specific functions, and cannot be transformed to suddenly take on the role of a heart cell.

Stem cells are different. They are still at an early stage of development, and retain the potential to turn into many different types of cell. Why are they so useful?

When a stem cell divides, each new cell has the potential to either remain a stem cell or become another type of cell with a more specialised function.

Scientists believe it should be possible to harness this ability to turn stem cells into a super "repair kit" for the body.

Theoretically, it should be possible to use stem cells to generate healthy tissue to replace that either damaged by trauma, or compromised by disease. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4562235.stm I love the BBC,I wish it would come to cable like CNN !

living, breathing children died yesterday as a result of disease, malnutrition, exposure to the elements, abuse, neglect, and war(or collateral damage when killed by the US or its proxies.)

Will the Snowflake baby become the latest accessory of the wealthy and neoconservative? Very few, I'd imagine.

Brownback is a loon. I'd heard a little about him and the more I see of him the more distasteful he is becoming.A sizeable majority of the American public is firmly in favor of stem cell research. That Bush used his first veto against research that holds so much promise to alleviate so much suffering will backfire.

How many of us DON'T know someone who is suffering or did suffer from the many horrible diseases and injuries this technology can help? How many of us fear that these debilitating conditions can one day strike us, although we may be healthy now?

It's going to take a lot more than this photo op of Sam and his Snowflakes to put a positive spin on this.

Bush has further increased his hold of his loyal 25% to 30% but the great majority of the American public will see this for what it is, a setback for science and a sop to the fundies.

I'm curious to see the poll disapproval to approval ratings. I'd think the ratio will be at least 3 to 1 against it.

81. You are so right there
These rightie fundies are into embryos and fetuses, but hey, once the child is born, they don't give a rat's ass about it having adequate shelter, food, medical care, opportunities.

I think it is so telling BTW that these embryos are called 'snowflakes' and I don't BUY the idea that the name came about because each one is different. I think it has a far more sinister meaning... anybody else?

92. Someone once said w/the RW "The Right to Life Ends at Birth"
with way to many of these people they don't give a damn what happens after the fetus turns into a living breathing human being. school lunch program, medicaid, decent education, and the rest don't matter.

49. What's next? Television for embryos?
We've gone from Teletubbies to TV programmed just for (post-birth) babies. Then there was Bill Murray's line at the beginning of "Scrooged": "Programming... for cats." Why not go the whole nine months, er, yards and put EmTV on the air? Heck, with Brownback's "help", we could probably get PBS to show warm, fuzzy, sonographic images 24/7/365.

:sarcasm:

53. What does little Hannah say when...
She reads the bill and realizes these "frozen babies" are going to be "killed" by being destroyed by the IVF clinics ANYWAY? The bill states that only those that are NOT going to EVER be implanted into a woman would be eligible for research so it's false to claim they would be "snowflake babies" one day.

Wow! I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I think I'm leaning toward crying. That was mind boggling on just so many levels.

57. This may piss a few people off...
but I really don't understand why people insist on trying to conceive a baby in this matter in the first place. If a couple is unable to conceive perhaps mother nature is telling them not to go there. Why do people insist on using unnatural means and go to such great lengths just to conceive a child? The problems that arise, especially when these people have an entire litter in one pregnancy, are many. It seems a bit selfish to me when there are so many children out there that need good homes and people to love and nurture them. Is it that they are not all blue eyed, blonde and "perfect"? A baby is a baby! Why does it matter if you didn't give birth to it or it is a different race? If you love children so much and desire a baby that badly, why not adopt one? I truly am amazed by this.

74. Chasity...

I respect your viewpoint, but as a parent, I can tell you that you can't underestimate the powerful feeling that having your own child engenders. Absolutely nothing against adoption, but having been there and done that, I can say that there's a very special feeling from having created a genetic offspring that nothing else can equal.

Disclaimer: I have a stepson that I have always treated the same as my son, always referred to him as my son, and my son's brother. And yet, when my genetic son was born, I was blown away by the parental feeling that accompanied it. I had some of that with my stepson, but nothing that matched that that came from my son's birth. Publicly, even to them, I treat them the same, but privately I'm just amazed at the power those feelings have.

So, no, I don't dispute your argument, but I would suggest you not be so critical on the parents seeking IVF. I didn't do it myself (meaning IVF), but the birth of your own biological child is an unequaled event, with powerful emotions and feelings attached to it, and I don't begrudge them for seeking it.

61. Just heard on OutQ...
about an article written by yadda yadda yadda, (looking for link) in which she was talking about fetus farms and the harm they can cause to our society. This lady had apparently likened it to the 1970's Michael Creighton movie COMA, in which humans were grown in farms and then their body parts were sold off to the highest bidder on the world market.

Then this guy called in and was talking about how much a fetus looks like a peanut, and if that is the case, he had just drove by a "fetus farm" in southern Georgia.

OutQ host Michelangelo Signorile was like "oh my - that means that Jimmy Carter was actually a fetus farmer?" Was funny as heck, will look for link and report back.

Explain why this should have anything to do with ESC. Will Assholes, err Bush's, veto save the embryos stuck in the freezer until they die? I guess a natural Embryo death is a more direct route to God. We can't have those unnatural scientists stealing their souls.

70. Brownback the nut
He's the worst of the worst of the religious right politicans....All this a-hole cares about is ridding world of abortion, porn, & shoving his religion down everyone's throats...USA Today (yesterday) had a cover story on him, made me sick reading it, but was able to finish it...Remember in the 2000 Republican primaries Gary Bauer, another certified right-wing loon, faired miserably & withdrew from the race early...I cannot see for the life of me Brownback ever getting the nomination in 2008, though he has crazed supporters, he's not electable...

I hope I got the link correct, check out the anti-brownback blog
