DNC makes presidential primary changes -NV and SC added
Washington, DC - Today, the Democratic National Committee's Rules and Bylaws Committee voted to add two states to the presidential primary calendar: Nevada will hold a caucus and South Carolina will hold a primary in the pre-window primary period. Iowa will remain the first caucus in the pre-window period and New Hampshire will remain the first primary.
...
DNC Chairman Howard Dean made the following statement following the vote:

"From the beginning, I have strongly believed in the importance of broadening participation in the nomination process to better reflect the rich racial, regional, and economic diversity of the Democratic Party and ensure that our Party produces the strongest possible nominee. The Rules and Bylaws Committee has worked hard to achieve that goal while pacing the process more evenly and balancing the need for change with Iowa's and New Hampshire's important, traditional roles. This has been a long, thoughtful and rigorous process. I want to thank the members of the Rules and Bylaws Committee for their hard work. They have conducted this process with the highest integrity; I support this final recommendation to add Nevada and South Carolina in the pre-window period. I also want to thank all of the states who applied, their participation has been absolutely critical in ensuring the rigor and integrity of this process."

1. If NH goes first, this is great.
Put New Jersey where NH was.

2. Nevada & SC? Well...that settles it...Biden will win in SC he has
strong support from Dem Machine there and has appeared there many times. Nevada might go for Richardson...

I wish they had included states besides Nevada and SC.. It swings the party to the Right...I would think with both being very conservative states.

9. Republicans decide who wins the SC Dem Primary
And they'll be messing with this one in 2008 as well. Didn't Biden already drop out?

3. Maybe it's a good idea, but
I'm not all that happy about right leaning states playing a major role selecting our (Dem) candidate. Half of the Dem's are already to far to the right.

4. N.H. and Iowa are not really right-leaning
in my book. N.H. did go for Kerry and Iowa for Gore.

12. That's really offensive being a minority
Nevada has a high Latino population and South Carolina has a high African-American population. That's why those states were chosen. I could give a damn about who the state voted for in the general elections. But in the primaries, Latinos and African-Americans need to be given a greater voice in choosing our nominees.
