Why did they choose 1947 to create Israel ..
and if it had to be created was it called israel before then or had America and Britain changed the map as they have everything else in history to suit their purposes? Why this time and place and weren't there some palestine jews there already. Why these particular jews? Were there other types of jews also and where are they? Aren't there Palestine jews, African, Europeans or others. Just asking for those who love to call anyone who ask these questions an anti-semite.

I was prepared to give you some sources and brief answers until I saw your eqregious last sentence. It's pretty clear you're not genuinely interested in learning anything. And it's pretty clear you know virtually nothing about the topic.

I have no reason to believe you're an antisemite, but very good reason to believe you're a rabble rouser. Thus, my interest in any further exchange with you at this time, is more than slightly limited.

4. alot of reasons
european jews were exterminated in the holocaust. this created a strong drive for an israeli state. the zionest movement had been in action since the 19th century and jews living in western trans-jordan or palestine, where thousands of years ago the ancient state of israel existed, had steadily increased. thus, in order to create a state safe for the jews, their ancient homeland where now a signficant proportion of the worlds remaining jewish population existed, was chosen. I believe most other jews lived in the united states, so unless we wanted to carve a state out of nyc or something, israel seemed like a logical option

15. Yes, there are Palestinian Jews and Arab Jews (Mizrahi). Bokharan Jews.
Ashkenazim and Sephardic. There are Indian Jews. There are the Falasha in Ethopia. There are Chinese Jews. There are Persian Jews and even Kurdish, Armenian and Georgian Jews...

Most of those who first went to Palestine were Ashkenazim. Then Sephardi and Mizrahi followed. The largest ethnic groups now are probably Mizrahi and Russian/Polish/Ukranian Ashkenazim. The Falasha were the last large group to emigrate from Africa.

Large numbers of Sephardim were exterminated in Salonica, which was their main city since the 1600s.Many took refuge in Turkey then Israel. We know what happened to the Ashkenazim during the Hitlerzeit. The Mizrahim came relatively "late" due to increased antisemitism after the creation of the Israeli state. They came from Baghdad and every other large city in Iraq. They came from Morocco and Algeria and Tunisia and Egypt and Libya.

Immigration had been increasing throughout the 19th century to Palestine by Ashkenazim. Lord Palmerstone had encouraged it, then the famous Balfour Letter became basic English policy. After the fall of the Ottoman Empire, Britain held the mandate for Palestine and Jordan, and the three provinces that became Iraq... France held it for Lebanon and Syria.

The Holocaust was the last step of many centuries of pogroms and officially condoned antisemitic acts. The surviving Jews felt that they had to have the protection of a state that could not be fickle with their survival. Hence, Israel.

All of this is very basic history and ought to be common knowledge. It is in every Western Civ textbook and in wiki articles. There is no secret about where and why Israel was founded.

28. Not flaming, but a little dispairing
If we really forget, to the point where younger (I'm assuming younger...) people really aren't sure about this, we are doomed to repeat history over and over.

Israel was created because it was finally accepted that Jews needed a real homeland. The Holocaust was only the biggest and most sucessful genocide of the Jews in Europe. It had already been going on periodically for centuries. When Hitler executed his final solution, even the United States couldn't or wouldn't find room for nearly all the Jews who tried to get out, although I did know some families who got here and settled successfully ahead of Hilter. My best childhood friend's parents walked across half of Europe with nothing but backpacks. They were young adults. They had to leave a lot of family behind. There was nowhere to go for many of them.

My generation was born after the Holocaust, but we're the last who even knew anyone who experienced the holocaust or who witnessed the aftermath. I wonder if, when we're all gone, if people will even believe it happened. It's beginning to seem like a lot won't.
