Howard Dean in NJ Friday, knocking on doors with Aronsohn in 5th CD.
This is really taking the door to door politicking seriously. Great article. Should give Jon Stewart something else to make fun of about our Democrats. But I love this.

Howard Dean joins 5th District hopeful in knocking on doors

"Patti Schwartz was home bathing her dog Friday, when suddenly Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, appeared at her front door in Woodcliff Lake.

"Hi there!" Dean said, extending his hand.

Beside him was Paul Aronsohn, the Democrat hoping to unseat Rep. Scott Garrett in the 5th District, which spans four North Jersey counties and is considered a Republican stronghold.

After hearing Dean's pitch, Shelly Maloney, 34, said she agreed with what Dean and Aronsohn were saying but had not made any decisions.

"I'm not somebody who buys a car because somebody's voiceover is on the commercial," she said

Fay Grey, 88, of Ridgewood greeted Dean like an old friend.

"Where have I seen you before?" she asked.

Dean grinned.

"I ran for president," he deadpanned."

1. Saturday July 29 is knock on neighbors' doors day I believe
nationwide, planned by the DNC, everybody is supposed to go knocking on neighbors' doors to promote the democratic party and its candidates. heard dean mention this several times in his speech at DemocracyFest. perhaps additional information is available at democrats.org or from your local dems official party groups.

we will be having a jump in our pool party that day, previously planned. but mostly with good liberals (I am not afraid of that word) and the subject of politics may well come up.

BTW the pool temp has come up 6 degrees in the past 2 days. something about 113 during the day and 102 at 10 at night gets the pool heated :-)

3. We are having a pot luck picnic in a community center...
and inviting others to come. Working on the voter databases, phoning, and addressing postcards we are getting printed off from the DNC website.

4. I love it that Dean is going

to places that were considered unapproachable before..

"The candidate has been taking daily walks through the district, and Dean's presence Friday was a sign that the national party was taking his campaign seriously, ignoring political observers who have labeled the race as non-competitive.

The visit also was in perfect step with Dean's strategy to contest elections in all 50 states instead of focusing efforts on states where the party's chances seem most promising."

You know Paul Aronsohn feels good about it.

Poor Nancy Herklotz! Her party left her a long time ago..poor thing.

Edit~ KNR because more people need to see this about what the DNC is doing! Thanks, mf~

5. He does not seem to mind that interaction in neighborhoods..
I have a hard time doing that in our area. We did it during the last door to door effort, and I do not like it. He seems to thrive on stuff like that.

He is setting an example of what a campaign should look like, and how we reach out.

10. That one woman from your district was stubborn.
The one who told Dean she would vote Republican, she always had. Nancy Herklotz, 88 years old I think.

Sounds like most people were pretty open-minded about talking to them.

12. Yep, that sure sounds Republican to me.
I admire Dean and Aronsohn for doing that. Apparently Aronsohn has been doing it a lot.
