Edited on Wed Jul-26-06 08:57 AM by ShortnFiery
I've only caught a couple of minutes but it was disturbing. :(

He comes across in tone like an O'Reilly type.

What's up with this guy? Does he have a particular bent?

1. I've Heard Him Subbing For Ed Schultz Before
I liked him way better than Ed, of course, Ed is so totally obnoxious these days with the Israel Can Do Whatever They Want crap. This lady from Chino, CA, called up and really took him to the woodshed about the propaganda he's passing off, she was great.

This guy I think has a local show in Denver, if it's the same one I heard....I didn't mind him.

3. Well today he sort of touts the "Get a job" for the homeless ...
Like it's all their fault that they are in abject poverty.

I'm not liking him much but will listen on.

4. You might want to get in touch with DUer benburch. His White Rose
Society archives Marvin's shows. Ben might be able to give you more info.

6. He was the token liberal on WLS in Chicago for many years.
He's not always the sharpest tool in the shed but he's definitely not an "O'Reilly type."

17. Yes, I listened to Jay in Chicago, he is a self-admitted
bi-polar person and I recall his out of control
rantings on many subjects. I would not hire this
guy as my campaign manager, that's for sure.

8. I downloaded a few of his shows from White Rose once...
and he wasn't too bad... out of Denver, Colorado if I recall correctly.

Better than many of the "liberal" radio hosts.

9. Thanks to all ...
My FAV Radio Goddess, Randi Rhodes sometimes gets in a tear also. ;)

Nobody's perfect, but those we respect, we UNDERSTAND they don't always have five star days.

I appreciate the "fuller picture" of this guy.

Best Wishes - :hi:

10. he has a show on the the Boulder AAR station
I've always found him to be too laidback.

since coming back to Colorado, he's mostly won me over, though I still have some reservations. When he was on the air here before, he was fairly liberal, although his show was not primarily political. But then for reasons that never made any sense, he championed repuke Bill Owens who was running for governor. It's hard for me to forgive him for that, especially given the disaster that Owens has been.

He's also a spokesman for a local "wacky" used car dealer, along with "Gunny Bob" the most rabidly insane Nazi host on the most rabidly repuke station in the state. They have done commercials together making fun of (and dismissing) their political differences. I'm not a fan of those who play nice with fascists for money.

11. I Stopped Listening in Denver
I live here in Jay Marvin's radio market.

I listened to him for quite awhile, he's been on the air almost two years.

But I stopped listening about three months ago when his show started to become just an advertisement for the Colorado Democratic Party.

760AM promotes itself as Denver's "Progressive Talk" ... but Marvin is the only live local weekday host and the show has become a series of drop-in interviews with all Democratic Party officials and candidates.

Now, for Democratic Party hacks and loyalists, that maybe fine ... but it is BORING and terribly one-sided talk radio.

"Progressive" means a whole range of subjects and different points of view, not just the party line.

As a radio host, Marvin is okay, but his show here in Denver lacks vision and diversity.

By the way, I stopped listening to Ed Schultz, too. Now I stream Randi Rhodes. Schultz has become a one note talker: "Big Eddie" is what 80 percent of what his show is about these days it seems.

15. DTC, Actually
Marvin broadcasts these days from the local Clear Channel headquaters in the Denver Tech Center.

If you've noticed, they're not advertising much anymore as 'Boulder's' Progressive Talk.

13. Jay has a long history...
Edited on Wed Jul-26-06 09:46 AM by Paulie
unfortunately it gets weaker by the year.

While on his first stint in Chicagoland on WLS, he was a self proclaimed leftist, and was entertaining. Jay is bi-polar, and known by his naming callers he didn't agree with Brain Stems, which I thought was fair. lol Along with sidekick Grant Park, the show was Smok'n... Then WLS went full right wing and Jay was deported to Denver the first time.

After a couple years, he sold out to come back to WLS where he took the job as token lefty (al'la Alan Colmes). He supported the Regime actions after Sept 11 and invasion of Iraq.

He again left for Denver, this time admitting he sold out and was happy time two at WLS was over.

I tried his morning drive show in Denver via Podcast a long time ago. I haven't listened recently, maybe I'll grab a recent podcast off of WRS and see.

I even have a picture of me, Jay and Grant, at a pet shop in Westchester, IL... Those were the days. One outing at Tower Records I gave him a copy of the Internal Revenue Code, two volumes, as a prank... :)

16. He's okay...
One of the better local talkers, not that there are all that many. He does the morning show on the progressive station.

I will disagree with the poster above who says he's a shill for the Democratic Party. (Not that being such is a bad thing... here on DEMOCRATICUnderground...) He's had guests from all sides of the progressive left, but he's also drawing some bigger names (not bad for a morning drive time talker in Denver) and a lot of those names happen to be Democrats.

He can be a little mystifying at times, and I don't always agree with him, but he brings a decent level of knowledge to the table and he doesn't make me spew my over-priced frothy coffee drink. What more can I ask for in a morning drive time? It's commercial radio, not neurology.

19. He's pretty entertaining
I listen to him on my morning drive to work in the Denver metro area. I enjoy him, and I get a kick out of him when he rips on filibustering bible-thumping callers.

Though to be honest, I like Randi Rhodes better. Her rants are of epic proportions! :grr:

20. I may be a heretic for admitting this, but I don't like Randi.
Rants are all well and good, but there's only so much pure rudeness I can take. And she's really rude, even to people who are trying to be polite and respectfully disagree with her. I'm far more interested in the intellectual side of the debate.
